Nathan Hale spied on the Loyalists for the Patriots. Undercover as a school master as he began surveying British fortifications. Nathan was to obvious though. A loyalist came to meet him in a cave pretending to be a patriot. Hale later got arrested and loyalists found documents in the soles of his shoes. He was then hung.

James Armistead

James Armistead was an unlikely spy. He was a slave but got his masters's permission to help in the Continental Army. He was a spy for the patriots to spy on the loyalists. He then went to a camp and played the role of a run away slave. The commander of the camp then made him a spy for the loyalists. James would then feed them incorrect
information. He later returned to his home/master and got a letter from Lafayette, saying he could be free. He changed his last name to Lafayette in honor of him.

Benjamin Tallmadge and Culper Spy Ring

Benjamin Tallmadge was the master mind behind the Culper Spy Ring. He operated under John Bolton. He and his coworkers communicated through a complex system of dead drops and coded messages. Sometimes they even communicated with invisible ink. You could only see the ink if you put chemical on it. They had many successes.

Crosby was one of the first counterintelligence operatives. It all started when his identity was mistaken. He was mistaken for a British sympathizer by a group of Loyalists. He then went to a meeting were he gathered information about the loyalists. He would pretend to get arrested with the "fellow" loyalists then go back to the field to do more.

Lydia would eavesdrop on British officers when they met in her parlor below her. She then took the information and wrote it down on tiny notes. She would then hide it in her sons clothe buttons. He would go and meet General Washington himself. She helped pass on very vital information.

Anna helped many patriots. She simply did her laundry. She shared vital information about British movements. When she hung a black petty coat on her laundry line it was a message. It signaled that information was ready to be picked up. The number of handkerchiefs she hung showed the spy exactly were the information could be picked up.
