The Hawaiian islands is a place of beauty. It is also home to the monk seals that live in it. The water is warm, and the food is abundant on the northern islands. The habitat has coral reefs, kelp forests, and land for the seals to live on. Kure atoll is one of the islands the seals live on. It is approximately 100 miles west of the islands and is a sanctuary for the animals because of its location.
Website source:
http://www.to-hawaii.com/kureatoll.php

Kure Atoll features a tropical savanna climate (Köppen Aw) with very pleasant year-round temperatures. Rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, with only two months being able to be classified as dry season months. This is good for the monk seals breeding and living conditions since it stays the same climate for them to live a normal stable life.

Website source: http://www.teachoceanscience.net/teaching_resources/education_modules/coral_reefs_and_climate_change/what_lives_on_a_coral_reef/

Kure Atoll has had a lot of human attention in the past, First it was captured by the Hawaiian government and a house was build upon it along with water storage. The reason for this being is because men have been stranded there so the king of Hawaii wanted to build a house for those unfortunates. Many ship wrecks are on the island due to the sips getting stuck inside. And in world war II there was 2 Japanese soldiers who ere stranded on the island after being injured by American troops and they lived off the land and either died or committed suicide due to not wanting to be captured. Kure is also within a major current that washes up debris from the great pacific garbage patch such as fishing nets and large numbers of cigarette lighters. Many of which are found in the stomach cavity of the birds stomach.
Website sources:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kure_Atoll
http://www.hawaiianatolls.org/about/kure.php
