One of the point Ratliff makes about closeness is about harmony. Harmony is just added layers to the melody. Harmony makes they music more interesting.

“The song marauds you: voices jumping out of the gate, the drums an announcement of three knocks and then a cymbal crash, and a half-beat before the first proper “one” of the rhythm falls into place. The cymbal crash is the door opening, then Lennon and McCartney spill into your house.”(Ben Ratliff. “Every Song Ever.” pg 194)

This song has no introduction as the quote says, this song literally starts with harmony.

Pentatonix is an a cappella group and being a cappella there is no band covering their voices. They have to be synchronized to make their music sound good unless it will all fall apart. This song is so raw because it is just them singing in full harmony.

“when singers sing harmony correctly, without falling off pitch, that’s one kind of achievement; but when two musicians of any kind are synchronizing on the surface levels and the deeper ones, too, that’s something else. It’s often what makes a good performance great, and what makes a certain kind of listening experience great.”(Ben Ratliff. “Every Song Ever.” pg. 193)

Pentatonix has been together for so long they have learned how to blend their voices well. They have learned at works and what falls through. It's not easy for anyone to be synchronized it takes practice, and that is what the Beatles and Pentatonix had to do for them to even be talked about. Not only these bands are synchronized, for any band/group to work everything needs to fall into place.
