Suggesting that Benvolio might be hypocritical as a joke.

d) puns and exaggeration used to convey how peaceful Benvolio actually is but Mercutio is mocking him

F: Dramatic irony is that Mercutio is actually not having a long amount of time left to live and so even if he is good at quarelling he wont earn very much.

G: Meant to provoke, derogatory

He is suggesting they are hooligans, up to no good which is why they should not have crashed their party, very full of himself.

I: Suspense created here, Tybalt has just accused Romeo of being a villain, for doing something bad (but what, we don't know) , everyone will be waiting to see how Romeo reacts. Audience is particularly waiting with bated breath because now they know that Romeo is already married to Juliet, they wonder what he will do to an in law of his.

K: "Boy" , previously Tybalt was so offended by how Lord Capulet treated him at the ball, now HE is using the same tone and words to address Romeo, clearly no respect and meant to trigger him. Meant to start a fight with Romeo

a: The family feud is so destructive that it starts to involve people of higher order (in this case, the prince dishes our justice) I think that prince is also trying to insinuate that his blood is boiling in rage, that a murder so vile would be committed by Romeo. He also explains how the blood of Mercutio has been spilled as it “lie(s) ableeding”

T: Romeo tried to avoid conflict and he wanted peace, due to his recent secret marriage to Juliet. He refuses to fight Tybalt, even when provoked, highlights his internal conflict and his desire to remain calm. However, when Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo's demeanour shifts dramatically. He then killed Tybalt. This act of violence represents the importance from his earlier peaceful stance and marks his transition from a lover to someone who is directly involved in the conflict between the families.

Mercutio’s intention was to provoke the other as based off of his personality he is someone who plays around with others. He isn’t serious about killing tybalt however he does want to teach him a lesson to not mess with him as he’s more bark than bite.

Eden and Trinity

(Letter N)

O:

He repeats it three times which makes Romeo feel even more guilty for not preventing Mercutio from dying. Mercutio repeats to express his anger and frustration after being wounded by Tybalt. He was so frustrated that he said “ plague o both houses” where he was asking for something bad to happen to both families.

Mercutio says “ plague o both houses “ to emphasise and signify his anger towards both families, Capulet and Montague. He believes that both families are to blame for his death despite being a close friend of Romeo. It shows that he does not matter whether he was close to Romeo or the Montague family. He still cruses both houses after being wounded by Tybalt as he believes that both houses are responsible for his death.

Point W

I think lady capulet’s reaction stems from the sadness and anger that comes with losing a loved one. One would naturally be sad when their family members pass away so it makes sense why she is sad. I think her idea of justice is that both parties should be punished if they are both at fault. We can tell this as “the blood of ours shed the blood montague” this means that she knew Tybalt was the reason for Mercutio death. It tells me that she is a very family oriented person and she is very fair.

Kai li and hanie

p :

Mercutio is a character known for his wit, humour. His wordplay and puns shows how unserious he about the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. He frequently uses jokes to lighten the mood and to express his views on different things such as love and friendship. However his humour also has some slight cynicism suggesting that he sees the world and the conflicts within it somewhat absurd. His tendency to mock serious matters is a part of his character. Using humour even at his death could be his way of coping with harsh realities

M: Tybalt is trying to challenge Romeo but Mercutio is acting on his behalf. He is offended that Tybalt is being condescending and insulting them but Romeo does nothing.

He adds to the already tense scene by verbally taunting T and getting him more riled up. If he had not joined in the tension, Romeo MAY have been able to convince Tybalt to calm down. However we do need to take note that Tybalt is the one coming to pick a fight despite Lord Capulet's repeated reminders to stand down previously so it may not be so easy to dissuade him.

M: When Romeo intervenes in the fight, Mercutio reacts with frustration and anger. He is annoyed by Romeo’s attempt to stop the duel and sees it as a betrayal. Mercutio believes Romeo’s intervention has caused the fight to drag on and ultimately led to his injury. As Romeo tries to break up the fight, Mercutio is wounded by Tybalt and becomes even more enraged. He feels that Romeo’s actions have contributed to his fatal wound and curses both the Montagues and Capulets, saying, "A plague o' both your houses!" His reaction is a mix of anger towards Tybalt and Romeo and a bitter acknowledgment of the futility of the feud between their families.

Yes, Tybalt would have been less agitated by actions of mercutio, this would be enough to stop Tybalt from drawing his sword to attack Mercutio. If Mercutio had not done anything to offend Tybalt he would not have been stabbed which led to his death.
