This allows for certain emotions to be shown and for a clear message to be conveyed. Ratliff states that "We're talking about when a musician makes herself very small in relation to a force that guides her, and then directly transmits the force of that trust to the listener. That transmission is a motion. The musician gives with transmission, the listener receives with transmission." This states how artist are able to use the motion of transmission to express anything they want to their audience. Also, transmission is the act of "giving more than you need to" which means that an artist may express themselves to an extreme amount or explore a topic more than they may need to which leads to them "exposing doubt through music". He continues to state that he feels his life has gotten out of control and that he "lost the only thing that held it all in place", his girl. The Weeknd describes how every night he is with a different girl and how he is caught up in the life of a singer. He then expresses his regret on leaving the girl that was pure and his true love. Finally, The Weeknd explains how although he may have lost the love of his life, he has adapted to the fame and lifestyle he is now living.
