But he didn't do it alone, he had other governors to help him. Some of them were chosen by the people. Some families moved just to homestead. It was hard. Families packed up their belongings and just left. The soil in Nabraska, Oklahoma, and Wyoming was good for farming  and people still believed for Colorado to be "The Great American Desert" so they wouldn't homestead there. Then when the land in other states  was taken people decided to give Colorado a try.
