The Neuschwanstein Castle was built in the 19th century on a hill above the village Hohenschwangau in south-west Bavaria by Ludwig II. 

The castle has towers, turrets, frescoes and many rooms, more than 200. The most beautiful is the Throne Room and the biggest room is the Hall of the Singers. Neuschwanstein’s highest tower reaches a height of 64,9m. The castle has very beautiful gardens. Marienbrücke is a the bridge which hangs over a waterfall, near the castle.

This castle is a symbol of Romanticism and it was an inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty castle. It seems as if it comes from a fairytale.

Its construction started in 870BC and it was completed in 1929. In 1541, a big fire destroyed large parts of it. 

It covers an area of 70,000m2. It is 570m long and 130m wide. There is a hidden room where they keep the Crown Jewels. There are also many palaces, halls, gardens and towers. There is also a monastery and St Vitus Cathedral.

Caerphilly castle: It is the largest castle in Wales and the best medieval castle in Europe. It was built in the 13th century by the English. It is located on an island in Gwent. It is surrounded by lakes and moats for its defence. 

 

Harlech castle: It is the most dramatic castle in Wales. It is built by King Edward I, on a 60 meter high hill overlooking Cardigan Bay. It is connected with the welsh myth of goddess Branwen. Nowadays, it is in ruins.

Carreg Cennen: It is the most romantic castle in Wales. It was built in the 12th century, on a hill in Carmartenshire, north of Swansea. It was destroyed during the War of Roses.

It has 4 turrets, a moat with a drawbridge, a gothic chapel, a treasury, mews, a library and lots of wings, like the Augustinian Wing and the Leopoldine Wing. There is also the Sissi Museum. Sisi was an Austrian princess, the most beautiful in Europe.

You can visit it from 09:00 to 17:30. Adults pay €13,90 and children €8,20. 

The castle has very big gardens. It has got a moat, a keep and corner towers. It has got 440 rooms, 282 fireplaces and 84 staircases. It has a strange roof with 11 kinds of towers and 3 kinds of chimneys. Its facade is 128m. It is surrounded by a 52,5km2 forest and it is 56m tall.

We chose this castle because it is very big with a beautiful garden and great roof. It is like a fairytale castle.

The castle has a big terrace overlooking lake Kornik. It is surrounded by Kornik Arboretum, the oldest and largest one in Poland. 

The most impressive room is the Moor Room which was inspired by the Court of Lions in Spain. It was a library but now it is a museum. There are also other buildings in the castle.

The Alcázar was a fortress, a royal palace, a state prison and a military academy since then. Nowadays, it is used as a museum and a military archives building.

It inspired Cinderella’s Castle in Walt Disney World. We chose it because it is the most beautiful castle in Spain.

It was a convent and a stronghold, founded by the Templar Knights. It has a big defensive wall and a citadel with a keep inside. It also has a round church and cloisters.

We like this castle because it is a World Heritage Site.

It has a keep with different buildings, like the Castellan's house and the Chapel of St. Mary and an outer ward. The castle also included a chapel dedicated to St. Angelo.

In the castle, there is also the ghost of the Grey Lady. The Grey Lady had an affair with the castle's Castellan. He ordered two guards to kill her because he was afraid that his wife would know the truth. The guards put the dead body in the dungeon and then the Castellan killed them, too.

The sea surrounds the castle, which is a great way to defend it. In 1441, a stone bridge connected the castle to the land. Two thousand people lived on the island and the castle was also used as a prison. 

A family has owned the castle  since 1912. It is open every day, all year, from 9am until 4pm in winter and until 8pm in summer. Adults pay € 10,00  and children €6,00 as entrance fee. You can visit the cafe and the bookshop.

The Harman Fortified Church is in the centre of the village Harman (=honey castle). It is a village in Transylvania, in central Romania. The church was built in the 13th century.

The tower is 56 metres tall. The choir is square shape with a vault like a cross. There are also two chapels.  The windows are round with four lobes. This castle is round, that is why we chose it.
