In my opinion, yes there is value in being aware of communities outside of yours because it could be similar to yous. For an example, Rio has its poor section(s) in the country, so does Philadelphia, Philly has its poor sections, its dirty, sections, and its nice section. In the video we viewed yesterday on Rio, we seen the rich moving the poor and pushing them more out of sight so any viewers that come and go don't have to see any of the poor sections that they have. Philadelphia doesn't do the exact thing, but they do force evict people who don't have the money to pay their bills, who are poor and usually in that section they might arrest people for little things others can get away with to clear up space for the new homes. It's important to care about other communities because it could teach us a lesson and it could teach you more about caring for others. If you viewed what some people have endured during this process of force eviction, protest against the government and the government just not supporting their community, it would change your mindset, like being ungrateful would just leave your mind forever. Some things that I would recommend to teachers would be to show the students you teach a video on this topic, teach them a lesson on it, let them explain and express how they feel on the topic completely. Let them know what it's like to not have a lot of things like the option to go to school, have food, water, phones technology, etc. I personally want to help their community, give them things like money food and drink, something that'll at least help them like hope, hope of getting out of the 🤬-hole they live in. Once I get out of school and college and get myself settled with a job that pays well and support my family, I will end up traveling the world to help out communities like that one in Rio, not to get a popular status, but to do what's right for the people.

There is value in understanding or being aware of culture and communities outside my own. I believe there's value because most people do not leave their surroundings; and when they do they are awestruck about the things that are occurring then realize they should open up more. For example when I watched the Rio video I did not have no idea that was even happening because I never valued to look beyond the surface of the nice tourist attractions. Some times the person realize a little too late.

They should care for other cultures and get to see the situations that's causing statistics and our city low percents. They should want to help and provide for us so we can become together as one and be aware of whats going on.

I believe there is value in being aware of the communities outside of yours. I say this because you maybe could relate to the things that are happening to those people from that area or you could even help make a change. Me as a young teenage male, I feel as though I am targeted in my community by the police and other black males this may be the case in other foreign countries. If I could find someone that I can relate to outside of my community we could make more people aware of being racially targeted and we can possibly make a change. I also feel like I can relate to the video from yesterday about Rio, I say this because all off the people that used to live in the county are trying to move in the city and now all of the houses from the city prices are going up.

Yes there definitely is. The value of being aware and understanding cultures and communities outside your own is very important. As a black teenager, I can go through some barriers in life, even by the people we are suppose to call to save us, but that doesn't mean that we (African American's) are the only ones going through things. It is people outside of this country who also come across great difficulties in their life experience. People all across the country, such as Rio, are not even being allowed to live in their home's because they are in the way. The only thing I think is in the way is the government. Everyone has rights and I think its unfair to try to take others away. So this question opened my mind in many ways. So instead of fighting for my people, we should fight for all the people who are getting their right tooken away from them.

I say that because culture is a strong part of people's lives. You should be aware of what you say or do around people that is really into their culture.

I do find value in understand and being aware of cultures and communities outside of my own. I find that the problems face here pale in comparison those in other parts of the world such as Rio. I find that many people that are oblivious about the outside world are very complacent. What I mean by that is they have absolutely no idea about the different types of people cultures and struggles are outside of their own. They appreciate the freedoms and privileges that they have in their daily life. The people in the city of Philadelphia focus on the small things ie the package thieves. But don't know about the gentrification happen in Rio. That is our big social gap.

My opinion on this topic is that I do believe that there is value in understanding and being aware of cultures and communities. I say that because if you can only imagine what's happening in the world just off of your own city, then that means you easily will miss the big picture and you will go through life not knowing everything that surrounds you. For example, my mom had gone to Punta Cana and when she came back she told me that the people over there is so energetic and the water is so beautiful and clear. She said being in another place out of your city and state can really broaden your imagination on what you can be. What I want teachers to start doing is teach their students more about foreign countries and make trips to places that will actually have the students engage in when their learning about history and other places.

Also being aware of others can show you how life really is outside of what we know. The same problems that we face here are the same problems around the world and some places decide to hide the problems. If you were to learn about these places you will be able to see through the lies and hidden truths.

Being aware and understanding of cultures and communities outside your own is very important. You learn things about your culture and the struggles that your community faces because you see it and you live it, but a better way to understand other cultures and struggles is to see it from someone else's point of view. This is why I believe that representation is very important when we talk about other cultures because learning about a culture from an outside figure doesn't make sense. I think it's important for schools to combine their lessons into real world problems because schools especially with predominantly white students don't know cultures outside of their own. I always thought a beautiful place like Rio is a beautiful rich place for people to vacation to but after seeing the video yesterday, it made me realize that I don't know much about other cultures and I think schools should be the ones to introduce these interesting cultures to students.

I believe that there is value in understanding cultures and communities outside of our own because it helps us really see how life is. It can show us the privilege that we have, but it can also show us our down falls. Meaning that it gives us a reason to have empathy or to relate with others around the world. It can help make our bond as people on earth stronger. It does this by showing each other's pain. It makes us realize,or makes me realize rather, that no matter how hard my life may get or the lives of people around me, someone else's life might be harder. I believe that younger children should be taught the respect and lives of people so that they can help in the future and stop history from repeating itself. And when we do relate, we can become better as a people rather than just a community of down falls and pessimists.
