  • Total dependency load (% 14 and under + 65 and older): 

    • Canada: 35.1%   younger =  15.1%           older = 20%

    Ghana: 39.7% younger = 35.9%          older =3.8%

    Italy:  36.6% younger =  12.2%          older = 24.4%

    Analysis:

    The highest total dependency load is Ghana and then Italy and last is Canada.

    A high dependency ratio means those of working age, and the overall economy, face a greater burden in supporting the aging population. The youth dependency ratio includes those only under 15, and the elderly dependency ratio focuses on those over 64.


  • Birth rate

    • The birth rate is the ratio between the number of live-born births in the year and the average total population of that year.

    Life expectancy is the number of years a person would be expected to live, starting from birth life expectancy at birth or at age 65, based on the mortality statistics for a given observation period.
