How the Sphinx Got to the Museum by Jessie Hartland

read 8/29/17
I really enjoyed this book because of the Egyptian subject and the artwork. It was a cute summary of how the Sphinx was created by Hatshepsut, destroyed by Thutmose III, and then found and restored for the museum. It was a short, yet sweet summary of the process of artifacts that I think children would easily be able to go along with. Then, in the very back pages, the book offers little facts for children to read about Egypt.
This book would be great for kids around grades 2-4 who enjoy reading about history. It requires good reading skills, as the jobs listed, such as an archaeologist, are more complicated.
This would be a great book for teaching about Egyptian history, the processes of things (artifact to museum), or if there are curious minds about museums before a field trip.

read 8/29/17
I loved the simple, watercolor artwork. I liked how it seemed to be a happy, made up story about a sick boy exploring underwater, but it was a true story. I always thought Jacques Cousteau was the Pink Panther guy, so this was something even I could learn from. I also like how it touched on pollution at the very end.
This book would be for students in grades 1st through 4th and those who enjoy reading about the ocean or famous people.
I could use this book to teach about the ocean, as this creates a sense of wonder for students to get interested. It would also be a good book to speak about pollution in the ocean and why we must treasure nature.

read 8/29/17
This book did a good job at incorporating Chinese culture into the ABCs. Each page had a letter and a short passage for a word that is important in Chinese culture, like the letter A for acupuncture or J for jade.
This book is for kids in grades K-3, because it reviews the alphabet but has little passages. Kids who like to read about different places and cultures would really enjoy this book.
This book would be good for teaching or reviewing the alphabet, or teaching about different cultures while reinforcing the letters.

I also appreciated the 'Words to Know' section in the beginning for readers who may need a little help with words like Tuskegee and the timeline in the back of the book. It was a nice, short summary of his life.
This book would be for kids in 1st grade through 5th grade. I enjoyed looking at the photos of Diana, and I also appreciated how the book accurately described the bad side of her life, including the paparazzi and her tragic death. It wasn't too bad where it isn't appropriate for kids, but it didn't skip over the sad parts.
This book would be for kids who are in grades 2 through 5. Girls, and even boys, who enjoy reading about princesses would enjoy this book even though it is nonfiction. It's a great book to move from fiction fairy tales to nonfiction.
This would be another good book to teach print concepts, because it contains a glossary, index, and table of contents.
