Los anticonceptivos hormonales orales o pastillas anticonceptivas, son un método seguro y efectivo para evitar temporalmente el embarazo, contienen pequeñas cantidades de hormonas femeninas parecidas a las que produce el organismo de la mujer.

Efectividad. 
Las pastillas anticonceptivas son un método anticonceptivo muy efectivo si se utilizan correctamente. Su efectividad es alrededor del 98%. La toma adecuada de las pastillas anticonceptivas asegura su efectividad.

Ventajas. 
*Regulariza las menstruaciones
*Disminuye la cantidad y los días del sangrado menstrual, así como las molestias relacionadas con la menstruación (cólicos, dolor mamario)
*Disminuye o desaparece el acné (barros y espinillas) y el grosor del vello
*Disminuye el riesgo de padecer cáncer de ovario y del cuerpo de la matriz; infecciones de la matriz, trompas y ovarios; quistes en los ovarios y las mamas

Desventajas. 
*Olvidar tomarse las pastillas
*Usar algunos medicamentos al mismo tiempo, como antibióticos, anticonvulsivantes, etc.
*Presentar diarrea, dolor de cabeza o vómito
*Manchado entre una regla y otra, estas molestias generalmente desaparecen después de un par de meses de tomar las pastillas
