An example of a horror film is 'IT' and this is due to the nature of the film and what takes place within the film such as the gruesome drama scene where the child get his arm bitten off.

The types of characters you expect to see during horror films are the victims, predators (the things people are afraid of), Hero's and just regular bystanders. The characters effect the way the film plays out as depending on what characters you have in the film, it will make the film have a different outcome. For example in 'Get Out' the main character that is trying to escape as a viewer we like him and want him to get out but if the main character was someone we didn't like we wouldn't want him to get out so that makes the film different for the viewer.

The beginning of a horror film we expect to see the setting and where the whole film will be taking place and this is so we have a basic understanding about what the film is going to entail, also maybe the first. The middle of the film is usually when the main problem/situation takes place and the buildup or even where the climax of it takes place. In the end you see a resolution and it is either a good or bad one but the situation resolves and the story should come together and make sense or set up for a sequel. An example of the beginning of a horror film is 'the hole' where they show you where they've moved to and set the scene for you, in the middle of 'the hole' the situation arises where the clown teddy tries to kill everyone, in the end of the hole the situation is resolved and they get rid of the teddy clown and all of the demons.

A quote from a horror genre film is "Here's Johnny" from the shining movie, and we know that this is a horror because of the context behind it as he breaks through a door using an axe.
