The Rock of Cashel is one of the most remarkable monuments ever found. It originated in the "devils eye". For many hundred years before the Norman invasion this rock was the traditional seat for the King of Munster also known as Muirchertach Ua Briain. The King of Munster in 1101 donated his kingdom on the rock to the Church. Not many remnants from the early structure still exist most are from the 12th and 13th centuries.

But in Ireland Christmas normally starts on Christmas eve to January 6th which in Ireland is known as Epiphany. Throughout Christmas people celebrate different holidays like St. Stephens day which is celebrated December 25th. On this day there are football matches and horse race meetings.

One rite of passage in a Ireland is a child's first communion. A first communion marks a stage in the journey of faith. To get your first communion you have to go through at least two years of religious schooling. You graduate with your class and walk down the rows, sip wine, and eat a peace of bread. The bread stands for the host which is Jesus and the wine is Jesus's blood.

Something New I Learned

Some things that I learned about my culture are that if any of your grandparents are Irish you can become an Irish citizen no matter where you live. Also the real St. Patrick was not even Irish. Most people in Ireland do not speak gaelic. The RMS Titanic was created in Ireland. In 2011 Ireland was considered one of the most populated islands in the world. But because of famine they no longer are. Ireland's population has still not recovered. Before famine had happened Ireland was at 8 million people and now Ireland is only at 6.5 million. Another thing is Ireland and Great Britain's kingdoms came together and created the United Kingdom. For a long time Ireland was mostly covered in ice. This was known as the last glacial period. Also, there have never been snakes in Ireland. Reasons for this were because they are cold blooded. This means they could not survive the ice age. Since the isolation form the Europeans happened, Ireland does not have many species of animals that are found everywhere else. The worlds oldest yacht club was founded in Ireland.
