My IA is about how queer people feel a connection to how supernatural creatures are portrayed in literature and other forms of media as well, with a focus on how vampires are written about within the sphere of christianity. With this in mind, the museum offered a very wide variety of works that could be applied to my topic. Some of the works I chose were chosen because of their connection to the supernatural, while some were due to their representations of isolation, and others because of their religious connotations.

The first painting that immediately caught my eye was Troll by Robin F. Williams. It depicts a mythological feature and upon first glance most would feel some level of uncomfortableness at the unnatural pose or glowing eyes. This connects to many views of vampires as soulless, scary creatures.

The next painting that caught my eye was, ironically, Eye by Madeleine Laliberté. This work portrays a feeling of loneliness and vulnerability in how the eye seems to be anxiously searching. As the only thing in frame, it seems to be hiding as many supernatural creatures and queer people do.

The next painting is Death of Saint Francis Xavier by the Atelier des Écores. Vampiric literature is heavily influenced by Christianity and the moral compass that accompanies it. This painting evokes a feeling of solitariness within religion.

The next painting is Morning at Cap Tourmente - Pheasants in the Aviary by Jean Paul Riopelle. The use of colours and vaguely flying creatures is very reminiscent of the supernatural and the chaos aids in making it relatable.

The last two pieces I chose were enclosed side by side, Nepenthes Brooch by Carina Shoshtary and Diego Brooch by Märta Mattson. These two are beautiful recreations of bugs, something that most find unsettling and uncomfortable. The contrast between their generally disliked nature and their flamboyance connects to both the queer community and vampires as they have evolved through myth and media.
