Brandon eats dinner with his family and tries to cover up the dogs bark. The parents laugh at him for barking, and his sister says to him that Brandon has the imagination of a little girl. Katie gets irritated from the barking. At the end of the chapter, Katie asks Brandon to go to fort which is in his room.

The dad comes home and his sister Katie wants to see the dad, Brandon does not want to because he wants to stay with his dog. Brandon tells his that he wants to eat in his fort, but she wants him to eat with the family. Brandon's mom explains that the dad is in charge and that he has to come down. Brandon then puts the dog in the closet and the puppy starts barking because he is not happy. After Brandon went downstairs for dinner.

Katie wants to eat in Brandons fort with him, but Brandon wants to eat alone. He doesn't want to go eat with his family either because then he will be leaving his dog alone. If he leaves his dog alone, the dog will not only miss him, but make a lot of noise. Everyone ends up eating where they want to so they are happy, but then the dad comes home.
