1) In the previous PBL journey in SFM, we were given an existing building, and then we are supposed to help to improve the Green Mark score for that particular building. Each member has to choose one point to try and improve the Green Mark score. We have to come up with recommendations.

2) One of the benefits would be the number of good recommendations each of us has. Sometimes, other members have a better recommendation than ours, and from there we did kind of a vote to see which recommendation is better for the particular problem. The challenge that I faced with my team members would be the punctuality of the group members and sometimes lack of communication when discussing during meetings.

In the first lesson, we brainstorm what is sustainable design. We used Padlet to pen down our thoughts and then we discussed them as a class. It is good to have this brainstorming as it helps us understand better and get a better view of it.

Today, we talked about the design process for site analysis. We talked about the factors that should be considered when analyzing the site. For example, one of the factors was the climate and site surroundings. For the climate, we can see if the weather will have an impact on the building. For example, is it well shaded or is it completely exposed to the sun? The sunpath, we can also observe where the sun is throughout the different times of the day/month/year and how will it affect the site. For site surroundings, it is also important to take note the site accessibility. Is it, for example, wheelchair-friendly? Is the site easily accessible to the general public? Are there any bus stops or MRT stations within walking distance of the site? Is it only a few minutes away on foot? These are some of the things that are important factors to keep in mind when analysing the site.
Discussing as a class is useful as it helps me to understand about the topic better.

This week we presented our site analysis of Khoo Tech Puat Hospital. Our slides were lacking basic pieces of information. I realised that we should not have left out important basic information about the site or pictures as adding them can help to attract our audience to continue listening to our presentation. Not only that, it can help our audience (in this case our classmates) understand what we are trying to present, and they as well as us who are presenting learn from this analysis presentation.
The group that presented about Vegan House in Vietnam attracts my attention. The house uses windows that are old to use as the main attraction of the house. Not only that, the house uses recycled materials which are good, as it helps to recycle items while making the house look good. The rooftop has plants that help to make the place cool.

This week, I looked through different works from different classes of the previous batch. I noticed that some of the work does not have a lot of things in it, but, it links to everything. This shows that it does not mean that the more we have, the better. The things we put inside our slides need to somehow link to one another. If it does not link, it is not useful and it is a waste. My group searched on zero-energy buildings such as BCA Academy and NUS to see what is there. We looked through and find some information that might be useful for our site analysis.

For this lesson, we presented our FILA Chart. I misunderstood the task as I only focus on the e-letter which is the EcoCampusNow Issue. However, my teacher told my group to look at every single one of it as it helps us understand better. We must not only focus on one thing, and disregard the others. Looking at everything will help us to understand the assignment better. The comic strip actually shows us a sign or hints that the place where we can make some things happened. We can then take into consideration where we want our site to be at.

We were moved to a different group, which is a group that is based on a topic. We had our sharing of what we have already written. After that, we chose a sub-topic to focus on. I did about green wall and green roof. I did not do a good job on it as I gave basic information that we know already. Ms Shruti pointed that out and she told me to research deeper. There were some things that I needed to check with other sub-topic.

Even though there is 3 study room, but each room is different in terms of style and usage. For example, one of the study room is an open concept study room where students can get together with friends and bond together without the typical classroom style where there is a table and a chair.

This week, our main focus was to complete our A1 Panel for interview. I managed to include 3 simulations into my A1 Panel which were Shadow Analysis, Solar Analysis and CFD. I feel that I could have improve more on my building and simulations. Overall, I am satisfied with this module and Ms Shruti was a good lecturer teaching this module. I hope whatever I have learnt will help me in the future.
