         <title>Ta’Khia Jones mental illness research</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Due to age-related neurological changes, Tardive Dyskinesia is typically seen in people over the age of 40.</p></li><li><p>TD is usually seen in the African and African American race group. Mainly menopausal females are at risk of getting this disorder, but it’s seen in the youth too.</p></li><li><p>over 500,000 people in the United States is affected by this disorder.</p></li><li><p>This disorder could be difficult to diagnosis due to symptoms may occur anytime after taking triggering medications. Tests that can be used to diagnose it is Blood/Urine tests, EMG, EEG, and Neurological physical examinations.</p></li><li><p>A treatment option that may work to reduce or get rid of this disorder would be changing the medication causing it. Medications you could take is Botulinum toxin injections<strong>, </strong>Deutetrabenazine/tetrabenazine, and Valbenazine.          <description><![CDATA[<p>1. &nbsp;&nbsp;Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) is commonly diagnosed at the age of eight.</p><p><br/></p><p>2. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The disorder is specific to children and teenagers. Its symptoms are usually stable by the age of 5 to 10.</p><p><br/></p><p>3. It affects 1 to 16% of all school-age children and adolescents.</p><p><br/></p><p>4. A psychiatrist or a child and adolescent psychologist can diagnose it. The patient must also have met four or more symptom criteria for at least six months, and these symptoms must be severe and disruptive to daily life. There aren’t any specific tests that can be done to diagnose Oppositional Defiant Disorder.</p><p><br/></p><p>5. Treatment options include cognitive behavior therapy, family therapy, and peer group therapy. There are other options such as parent-child interaction therapy, social skill training, and problem-solving training. Lastly, medicines aren’t generally used for ODD.</p><p><br/></p><p>6.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Absence seizures typically begin in childhood, usually between the age of 4 and 14 </p></li><li><p>Absence seizures are not specific to any particular race or ethnicity. both males and females can be affected, though some studies suggest a slightly higher prevalence in females </p></li><li><p>approximately 1 in 2,000 children in the U.S. are affected </p></li><li><p>diagnosis often involves a detailed medical history and a description of seizures, an EEG is the primary test  and sometimes a MRI or blood test can be done </p></li><li><p>treatment options include medications ( ethosuximide, valproic acid, lamotrigine) some times you may need a therapist for lifestyle changes such as diets and sleeping, VNS therapy is also considered </p></li><li><p>absence seizures can often be effectively managed with medication, and many children outgrow them by adolescence, however some may not outgrow it, there is no proper cure or treatment to help control the seizures.</p></li><li><p><br/></p></li></ol>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>1.The most common age to be diagnosed with vaginismus is in the late teens or early twenties. This is when many women first try to insert a tampon or attempt penetrative sex, which can trigger symptoms of the condition.</p><ol start="2"><li><p>Vaginismus is not specific to a certain age group, it is just most commonly noticed in the late teens or early twenties. It can develop at any point in a woman's life.</p></li><li><p>In the US 5-17% of women experience vaginismus in a clinical setting. The exact number is difficult to determine because it is often unreported.</p></li><li><p>Vaginismus is diagnosed through a thorough medical history, a physical examination, which includes a pelvic exam, and an assessment of the patient's sexual history. Other test are not usually necessary.</p></li><li><p>Some treatments options are pelvic floor exercises, relaxation techniques, psychotherapy and biofeedback.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>ADHD is typically diagnosed in childhood, with symptoms often appearing before the age of 12.  In some cases, symptoms can be noticeable as early as 3 years old.</p></li><li><p>ADHD is more commonly diagnosed in males than in females. Boys are about twice as likely to be diagnosed with ADHD compared to girls. And it more common in non-Hispanic black children than non - Hispanic white or Hispanic children.</p></li><li><p> Approximately 7 million children aged 3-17 years in the U.S. have been diagnosed with ADHD.  This represents about 11.4% of children in this age group.</p></li><li><p>A healthcare provider gathers information about the child's behavior from parents, teachers, and other adults who interact with the child. Healthcare providers use the guidelines in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5), to help diagnose ADHD. There may also be behavioral assessments.</p></li><li><p>Treatment for ADHD often includes a combination of medications and behavioral therapies.  These may include stimulants, non-stimulants and anti - depressants.  And behavioral health is also recommended. </p></li><li><p>DHD is considered a chronic condition and there is no cure.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Childhood Amnesia is typically diagnosed in adults when they don't remember early memories from their childhood before the age of 3 or 4. </p></li><li><p>Childhood amnesia can affect anyone regardless of gender and race.</p></li><li><p>It is stated that almost all people have trouble remembering things that happened before the age of 4. At least one in three Americans will experience this. </p></li><li><p>This is diagnosed with interviews, observations, and a cue word technique. Sometimes MRIs and CT scans will be used to check for brain damage. </p></li><li><p>There is no specific treatment for Childhood Amnesia.          <description><![CDATA[<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; STPD is most commonly diagnosed in early adulthood but some symptoms may show up during childhood and teenage years.</p><p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; STPD is not race, sex, or age specific.</p><p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Roughly 3% of the population is affected by this disorder.</p><p>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; STPD is diagnosed based on the existence of at least 5 of 9 characteristics associated with the disorder (&nbsp;Ideas of Reference, Excessive Social Anxiety, Odd Beliefs or Magical Thinking, Unusual Perceptual Experiences, Odd or Eccentric Behavior, No Close Friends, Odd Speech, Constricted Affect, and Suspiciousness). There are multiple ways to screen for this disorder but all methods include some sort of questionnaire or assessment that all test for the 9 characteristics.</p><p>5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; It can be treated with medication such as antipsychotics and antidepressants.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>People of all age can be diagnosed with autophagia, however it seems to be more common in children and teenagers.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Autophagia is not specific to any race, ethnicity, or gender.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Based off what I have read autophagia is more common than I thought. Nail biting falls under this disorder classification which is pretty common. So it’s said that 7 out of 10 people have autophagia.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>A diagnosis can be obtained by the clinical judgment through an assessment.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>Treatments for autophagia include behavioral modifications like psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, and reducing hallucinations in schizophrenic patients. Environmental modifications are also considered for treatment like wearing gloves and sensitization.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p>There is no cure for autophagia.</p></li></ol>]]></description>

         <title>Sleep Paralysis</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Sleep paralysis begins in adolescence or early adulthood around the ages 14 and 30.</p></li><li><p>It affects people of all races and ethnicities, and women tend to have it more than men.</p></li><li><p>Around 7.6% of the population experience at least one episode of sleep paralysis in their lifetime. </p></li><li><p>It is diagnosed based on symptoms and medical history. If other sleep disorders are suspected, sleep studies are also conducted.</p></li><li><p>The treatments focus on improving sleep, managing stress, and addressing other sleep disorders. Cognitive behavioral therapy and medications like antidepressants help reduce episodes.</p></li><li><p>Sleep paralysis is not curable, but it is manageable.          <title>Borderline Personality Disorder</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>The most common age for diagnosis of BPD is during late adolescence or early adulthood.</p></li><li><p>BPD is often perceived to be a female predominant disorder but males can also be diagnosed with the disorder. This disorder can affect all races.</p></li><li><p>In the US, an estimated 1.6% of adults struggle with Borderline Personality Disorder, which is roughly over 4 million people.</p></li><li><p>BPD is diagnosed through evaluation by a mental health professional, including interviews and taken questionnaires but there isn't a specific test to confirm it. </p></li><li><p>Treatment options for someone with BPD is to take psychotherapy and also Dialectical Behavior Therapy. There is no medication for the diagnosis of BPD but medications are used to address co-occurring conditions like depression, anxiety or impulsivity. </p></li><li><p>There has not been a cure for BPD.          <title>Cotard Delusion</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>People of all ages can be diagnosed with Cotard's delusion, however, it is generally found in middle aged adults around the age of 50.</p></li><li><p>It is limitedly studied due to lack of cases available, however, thus far it seems to be presenting more in females; and not too a specific race. </p></li><li><p>It is a rare syndrome with less than 200 cases making it &gt;1% worldwide. </p></li><li><p>"Cotard's syndrome or delusion is a symptom of another condition, not a disease. It's usually diagnosed after doctors rule out other conditions that look like it" (Bhandari).</p></li><li><p>Treatment options include treating the root disease, antipsychotics, antidepressants, and antianxiety medications.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>The common age of patients being diagnosed with a Binge Eating Disorder is between 12-25. </p></li><li><p>Binge Eating Disorders are more common within females unlike the 10% that is detected in males.          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li><p>Although dissociative amnesia can be diagnosed at any age, it is most commonly diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40</p></li><li><p> No, it is not specific to a certain race, ethnicity, sex or age group but it can be seen in women more than in men at 2.6% as opposed to men at 1%. </p></li><li><p>In the United States there is a prevalence of 1.8% of dissociative amnesia</p></li><li><p>Dissociative amnesia is diagnosed based on the criteria outlined in the DSM 5-T-R.  MRI scans  or electroencephalograms may also be used in order to diagnose patients.
