At our school, we embarked on an exciting hands-on experiment with our students: planting beans and lentils! Through this simple yet fascinating activity, the children are discovering how a tiny seed transforms into a thriving plant.

By watering and observing their seedlings each day, they’re learning not only about plant growth but also about patience, responsibility, and the wonders of nature. It’s a beautiful way to connect with the environment and understand the magic of life from the ground up! 🌿💚

Ο κάθε μαθητής -τρια  φύτεψε τους δικούς του σπόρους και ανέλαβε να το φροντίζει. Χρησιμοποιήσαμε πλαστικά διάφανα ποτηράκια, ώστε να μπορούν να παρατηρούν τον κύκλο της ζωής του σπόρου βήμα προς βήμα. Ο καθένας έγραψε το όνομά του στο ποτηράκι του και τοποθετήσαμε ταμπελάκι με το είδος του σπόρου. Φυτέψαμε φακές, ρεβίθια, φασόλια, χάντρες, γίγαντες, σιτάρι και φασόλια μαυρομάτικα. Και το ταξίδι του σπόρου ξεκινά….

Each student planted their own seed and took care of it. We used clear plastic cups so they could observe the life cycle of the seed step by step. Everyone wrote their name in their cup and we placed a label with the type of seed. We planted lentils, chickpeas, broad beans, beaded, giant, wheat and black-eyed beans. And the journey of the seed begins….

At Thyrreio Kindergarten, our children embarked on a magical journey into the world of nature! We started by learning about the plant life cycle, its different parts, and how it grows.

With enthusiasm, the children dramatized the plant life cycle, playfully and imaginatively portraying the journey from seed to leaf. Next, we proceeded to build the "Greenhouse of the Future," where the children planted giants – plants they chose to represent the power and grandeur of nature! 🌻

To take care of our plants, each of our little friends was assigned the responsibility of caring for their plant every day. Every day, a different student took charge of watering and observing its growth, fostering a beautiful connection with nature and the environment.

We can't wait to see how our giants will grow and bloom! 🌱

We read the story Little red chicken and discussed about seeds and plants. The children planted various seeds. We put one pot outside to have sun light. One pot we put in the fridge. One pot was closed in a box with no sun light or air. One pot we closed ina plastic bag so it does not have air. And one we left with no water. The children will have the chance to discover what seeds need to germinate.

We also put an onion in water and various seeds on cotton wool with water. We are very excited to see the results of our experiments.

Φυτέψαμε σπόρους από φασόλια, μαυρομάτικα φασόλια, φακές και βασιλικό, προσπαθώντας να τους τοποθετήσουμε σε σωστό βάθος. Όλοι παρακολουθήσαμε με ενθουσιασμό τη διαδικασία και συμφωνήσαμε να φροντίζουμε τα φυτά μας καθημερινά, ποτίζοντάς τα με προσοχή όποτε χρειάζεται.

Καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια της δραστηριότητας, η νηπιαγωγός ενθάρρυνε τα παιδιά να σκεφτούν κριτικά και τη σημασία της ανακύκλωσης και πώς τα παλιά μπολάκια γιαουρτιών μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν ξανά με δημιουργικό τρόπο. Με αυτή τη δράση, όχι μόνο ήρθαμε σε επαφή με τη φύση, αλλά και μάθαμε για τη σημασία της ανακύκλωσης και της προστασίας του περιβάλλοντος.

In the 3rd Kindergarten of Mournies the students and the teacher, followed a creative process to plant various seeds in small yogurt cups. First, we collected the cups and cleaned them thoroughly. Then, we made small holes at the bottom of each cup to help with water drainage and prevent excess moisture. We filled the cups with soil, which we chose to be natural and environmentally friendly.

We planted seeds from beans, black-eyed peas, lentils, and basil, making sure to place them at the correct depth. We all watched the process with excitement and agreed to took care of our plants every day, watering them carefully when needed.

Throughout the activity, the teacher encouraged the students to think critically about the importance of recycling and how old yogurt cups can be reused creatively. Through this activity, not only did we connect with nature, but we also learned about the importance of recycling and protecting the environment.

The children watched the story of Sid the seed and they put the pictures inn the right order.

Δυο εβδομάδες μετά την φύτευση των σπόρων… Παρατηρούμε πως ο κάθε σπόρος έχει την δική του εξέλιξη.

8 ημέρες μετά τη φύτευση. Φακές, 3 ποικιλίες φασολιών, σιτάρι και ρεβύθια.

Βλέπουμε την ανάπτυξη των φυτών. Τα παιδιά όταν χρειαστεί τα ποτίζουν με προσοχή.

We see the growth of the plants. Τhe children water them carefully when necessary .

After the lesson we had with the children about the parts and growth of a plant, we decided to do some reinforcement work on the topic. We did a construction where the students created a plant by putting its parts together one by one. Then we made a worksheet about the parts of the plant.

Σε αυτό το κεφάλαιο στόχος μας ήταν να μελετήσουμε με τους μαθητές "τα μέρη ενός φυτού" και την ανάπτυξή του. Είδαμε ορισμένα βίντεο στο utube (για το ποιοι παράγοντες βοηθούν την ανάπτυξη ενός φυτού και ποιοι όχι),  τα αναλύσαμε,  ώστε να γίνουν κατανοητά από τα παιδιά και λύσαμε τυχόν απορίες. Οι μαθητές έδειξαν ενδιαφέρον και έκαναν αρκετές ερωτήσεις προκειμένου να μάθουν περισσότερα για το θέμα.

In this chapter, our goal was to study with the students "the parts of a plant" and its growth. We watched some videos on YouTube (about which factors help the growth of a plant and which do not), analyzed them, so that they could be understood by the children and answered any questions. The students showed interest and asked several questions to learn more about the topic.

We learned the poem: Συμφωνία με ένα δέντρο, Γιωργής Κρόκος.

A poem about an agreement a child makes with a tree. The children created drawings of themselves next to a tree.

Second graders carried out an exciting experiment to explore nature and cultivate the idea of a ‘garden of the future’. They planted bean seeds in cotton wool, creating a controlled and innovative observation environment. The experiment gave them the chance to closely observe the germination and growth of the plants.

Over several days, students carefully monitored the transformation of the beans. They documented each stage in a ‘Plant Diary’, a notebook specially designed to record their observations and drawings. Starting from the planting date, they described the initial appearance of the seeds, the development of the roots, the emergence of shoots and, finally, the growth of the plant's threads.

This project was not only a botany exercise, but also an opportunity to understand the concept of sustainability. The students reflected on how simple resources such as water, light and air can support life, encouraging them to think about creative and environmentally friendly gardens for the future.

The experiment was a valuable lesson about nature, patience and responsibility, turning the children into little gardeners of the future! 🫘✨ What other detail would you like to add?
