When Dolores was 3 her mother divorced her father and her and her siblings moved to Stockton, California where she grew up. Huerta went on to go to college and after some bad jobs became a teacher. Dolores's teaching career didn't really pan out and she decided that she could do more if she began helping those student whose parents labor and get paid basically pennies while their children go hungry.
