         <description><![CDATA[<p>Upon reflecting on and viewing the different time periods it was interesting to see how the perspective or goal changed of the "education" but the purpose remained the same. The colonizers believed that they were "helping". </p><p><br/></p><p>In original contact the purpose was to make them "frenchmen" and it was interesting to me that many Indigenous people were actually not against the religious part of the education, but they were against the culturally French part, since that interfered with their culture more. </p><p><br/></p><p>Next, I found it interesting that in the Industrial Era it was still framed as "helping" the Indigenous students. The settlers had effectively stolen their land and ruined their ability to continue their way of life. So they phrased it as trying to give them skills to survive in a land that they had destroyed and colonized. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>I was shocked to learn about the industrial schools that came before the residential schools while doing the reading. It was interesting to see that they almost worked backwards in terms of their treatment of indigenous children. Absolutely none of it was acceptable, but the treatment seemed to start as not as vicious and then became truly awful with the culmination of residential schools. We have slowly been moving away from that but there are still remnants of that system still within ours today. </p>]]></description>
