On this day I was given an opportunity observe inside the surgery room and I also assisted the doctor. I was a little nervous since it was my first experience to enter a dental surgery for the first time . But it was not as bad as I thought because the doctor and the senior nurse was very kind and helpful. They taught me about the tools, treatment and medications too.
Since the treatment wasn't a complicated case, it was easy for me to learn while treatment is going on. I learned about a few basic tools that always needed for all the treatments in a dental field such as :-
a) Mouth mirror
b) Twizzer
c) Probe
This three tools are very basic tools that needed for all then treatments even for a normal check up.Those tools will be placed on a tray. I also learned a few other tools like carver, cement carrier, spectular and so on.I think the knowledge I gain here will be very useful for me throughout my lifetime. I am happy to say that on this day I assist the doctor alone without the senior nurse's help. I think this opportunity will give me a chance to learn from my mistakes. I assisted for about two to three patients. Since it was a busy day in the clinic the senior nurse was also busy dealing with patients like fixing appointments for them and giving the medication with the correct instructions. As I was assisting the doctor she also taught me a lot while she was doing the treatments for the patients. There was a case for root canal treatment too, which it was quite a difficult case to assist  for fresh learner like me, the doctor still understood my situation and corrected me when I am wrong. It was a great pleasure to work with such a understanding doctor and nurse. They always keep patience to teach me even they knew that I am only a temporary staff there. Today I learned to sterilize dental instruments in a auto calve machine. This is a machine that used to clean up the instruments, it is a must because it prevent from infection of bacteria and viruses. There will be an inspection for the usage of this machine too.
