The top five things I learned in section one were;
1. The Cold War started because of suspicion on the Soviet Union
2. The Soviet Union was trying to expand communism, even though it once promised to allow free elections and choice of government
3. The United States worked mostly helping the countries fighting communism off, by providing financial aid and supplies
4. There was never a direct conflict, which is why it is called the Cold War. Stalin was afraid of war with the United States because he didn’t want to lose his power
5. The Berlin airlift is what I believe to be the most successful attempt at helping prevent Communist spreading, by helping Berlin not collapse into Soviet control out of need for supplies.

The top five things I learned in section three were;
1. The United States found out that the Soviet Union had an atomic bomb which lead to the making of many nuclear weapons.
2. Eisenhower favors massive retaliation and believes that if there is going to be a war it's going to be nuclear.
3. Stalin dies and a new leader of the Soviet Union rises named Nikita Khrushchev. He favored peaceful co-existence.
4. Poland and Hungry riot against the soviet union which leads to the death of many Hungarians.
5. The Soviet Union launches satellites into space and then the US funds the education of scientists and creates NASA.

The top five things I took away from my section were;
1. The Red Scare that happened in 1919-1920 kicked back up again but the fear of Communists was much greater
2. Many cases happened in which people were investigated for fear that they could be communists and be bad for the US
3. There were also big cases on supposed spies especially in the nuclear field who were giving information to Soviet scientists
4. Joseph R. McCarthy was a man who worked in the Senate and who stated that there were many people in the Senate who were communists, this caught the attention of many Americans and later created a term called McCarthyism
5. As McCarthy was dropped from his power and these allegations were sorted out, it showed that the Red Scare was slowly going away.

1. There was a civil war in China which in the end communists won China
2. Truman did not ask for a formal declaration of war when attacking North Korea
3. Douglas MacArthur was fired after sending a hate letter to Truman because Truman did not want to invade on China
4. Once Douglas attacked the Chinese border it brought China into the war which made Truman realize that they can't win the war with out atomic weapons
5. In the end there was no victory and the US and North Korea to sign a ceasefire.

1. The U.S and the Soviet Union competed with each other by making powerful nuclear bombs for over 4 decades.
2. When Eisenhower was in office, he decided to focus on making/transporting nuclear bombs instead of supplying money for the troops.
3. After Stalin died, the next leader was less cruel, but still ordered troops to murder innocent Hungarian people when a riot broke out.
4. The Eisenhower Doctrine said that the U.S would help any nation threatened by communism.
5. The Soviet Union sent a dog in a satellite in space. The dog died, which led Congress to pass an act that allowed all high schools and college to continue to study science.

The North Koreans had began a large military buildup once the Americans had stopped occupying South Korea. About a year later, the North Koreans had attacked and captured the capital city, Seoul. This forced the South Koreans to retreat.
3. Truman knew what happened last time they tried appeasement, and sent troops instead.
