My meetings are way better this year. They are shorter, and we read them together. The idea of a to do list before the meeting has been super helpful. Sitting with the kids has made a big difference.

Games

I think Coseeky (Cosneeky), 7 Up, Detective, Pass the eraser, improv game with an object that you have to pantomime and pretend is something else.

Using it as a time to eat snack, read quietly, or finish something they might need to do. Sometimes, I put on a meditation or the jellyfish floating to music.

Student Choice

When students shared information about their region, I gave them a choice to create a Google presentation or speak to their classmates. However, I know that I'm not doing enough of this. Sometimes in math, I give them a choice of which game they would like to play, but I'm not doing this well. Yet.

We've done Four Corners, Chalk Talk (which is like Graffiti). I should try Snowball, but have not. Yet. We've also done jigsaw with information about regions for social studies.

My students love greeting each other each morning and they are always eager to learn new activities. It is evident that using Responsive Classroom has helped build a strong foundation and relationships between the students and the teachers.

Giving students choice on what math games they want to play first, when math games are being offered as part of our math lesson. Allowing students to create their own math story problems, but giving them a window of numbers(i.e. 0-50)that they can select from). Allowing students to self-select where they sit during work time.

The best games are the ones that don't involve people getting out, so coseeki, heads up-seven up, change your appearance, Boggle, etc.

We only have very short morning meetings in 5th grade, so we often run out of time for a game. This is very disappointing for the kids.

Being certain to give some forthought to Morning Meetings has been helpful in my Morning Meeting "practice." I am sure to include most of the elements each day (greeting, sharing, group activity, morning message)>

Having a ball with different greetings! Kids look forward to gathering to find out what the greeting will be. Easy to get everyone's attention. Lots of smiles!

Nice activity for Kindergartener's who are not yet reading. Melds nicely with project on identity and the ways we are the same and different!

This is a vital aspect of the day! Freedom to choose and the responsibility of making a descision are an important part of the culture of our classroom. Great that our classrooms are not entirely top down.
