         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Japanese officials completely ignored the protests that were going on.<br>- They launched a surprise attack on Manchuria and seized control of the territory.  <br>- And in a span of several months the Japanese troops controlled basically the entire province.  <br>- Hideki Tojo was in control of Manchuria.  <br>- Tojo and and Kwantung Army began to further their invasion into China.  <br>-In 1910 Korea was annexed by Japan.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- In Italy unemployment and inflation was producing bitter strikes.<br>- The middle and upper classes were scared by these Communist Strikes, so they demanded leadership.  <br>-  And Mussolini took advantage by being a powerful speaker <br>- Mussolini promised things that Italians were dreading like Peace, Work and Calm.  <br>-In October of 1922 Mussolini and thousands of his followers wearing black uniforms marched on Rome,  and they  were coined the name "black shirts." <br>- In 1921 Mussolini established the Fascist Party which put the interests of the state above the individuals.  <br>-  When the government finally sided with the Fascist Party they appointed Mussolini head of government and Duce ( leader)<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Hitler proved to be a powerful speaker during his time with the National Socialist German Workers Party.   <br>-Other wise known as the Nazi Party <br>- After he showed his speaking skills he was promoted to be the party's leader.  <br>- The people in Germany needed some hope and that's what Hitler brung them.  <br>-He promised that he would bring Germany out of the chaos and that is what gained their attention to Hitler.  <br>- In January of 1933, Hitler was appointed the role of chancellor and was deemed the name De Fuer.<br>- In his book Mein Kampf he set basic beliefs of Nazism and that soon became the plan of action for the Nazi party when he rose to power.    <br>- By 1932 the Nazi Party became the strongest political party in Germany.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Stalin created the Totalitarian Government.  <br> - This style of government was used to "exert complete control over its citizens."  ( no rights what so ever) <br>- Stalin abolished all privately owned farms, and made them large government owned farms.  Which were worked by hundreds of families.<br>-After Vladimir Lenin died in 1924, Joseph Stalin assumed power and took control over the country.  <br>- In 1928 Stalin made an outline for his "5 year plan. " <br>- Stalin ended up making 3, 5 year plans<br>- Historians estimate that Stalin was responsible for the deaths of 8 million to 13 million people.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- After the attack on Pearl Harbor, on December 7th, 1941 everyday life for Americans began to drastically change.  <br>-Panic Gripped the Country <br>- Things like food, gas and clothing were all being rationed so that they could use that stuff to contribute it to the war.  <br>- Women began to join the workforce, becoming electricians, welders, and riveters.  <br>- One of the most controversial and drastic things that happened was that Japanese Americans were stripped of their rights as citizens.<br>- Americans really started solely depending on the radio, to hear reports of what is happening.      <br>-Individuals and communities, started conducting drives to collect stuff like scrap metal, aluminum cans and rubber.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- U.S. workers played a pivotal role in the production of war related materials. <br>- Like airplanes, tanks, warships, rifles etc.  <br>- Many of the workers were Women, because the men were out at War<br>- Most jobs that women took up, were jobs strictly done by men.  <br>- A woman who worked in defense industry for the war was known as "Rosie the Riveter." <br>- By Mid -1940s the % of women in the American work force expanded from 25% to 36%.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Kenesaw Mountain Landis, the commissioner of baseball, had wrote a letter to President Roosevelt, and asked if baseball should be shut down.  <br>-This letter was known as the " green light" letter.  <br>- President Roosevelt said that baseball should continue, because it would build collective morale.  <br>- During the war 95% of professional baseball players in the season of 1941decided to get involved.  <br>- Future hall of famers like Bob Feller, Hank Greenberg, Joe Dimaggio, and Ted Williams went into the war.  <br>- It wasn't all just famous baseball players that enlisted into the war, there were plenty of other baseball players that enlisted as well.  <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Pearl Harbor was the ultimate reason for the U.S. joining into the War.  <br>-   Pearl Harbor was a U.S. Naval Base near Honolulu, Hawaii and it was the setting for the surprise attack by Japanese Forces.  <br>- Around 8am  on Sunday hundreds of Japanese fighter planes swarmed onto the base. <br>- They destroyed 20 American Naval Vessels, 300 airplanes, 2,400 Americans died also including civilians.  <br>- After that attack FDR asked Congress to declare war on Japan.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- This attack really startled the U.S. to say the least, the U.S. Navy that day lost 20 American Ships, and 300 airplanes.  <br>- Most Importantly 2,403 sailors, civilians and soldiers were killed, and around 1,000 people were injured.   <br>- Around the 1940's battleships weren't the most important naval vessel , but aircraft carriers have now become the most important.  <br>- The U.S. Navy was actually able to recover relatively quickly because they had left the bases most important stuff intact.  <br>_ oil storage depots, repair shops, shipyards, and submarine docs.  </div>]]></description>

(1935 , Germany invaded the Rhineland) <br>- Germany and Italy decide to make an alliance and its called the Rome Berlin Axis Pact <br>- Japan was also becoming a powerful empire as well invading several countries like China and Manchuria <br>- 1938 Germany invades Austria and that really surprised everyone<br>- In September France , GB , and Germany cams together to create the Munich Pact which agrees to turn over the Sudentland to Germany<br>- And on September 1 , 1939 Germany attacks Poland and that is consider the event that caused WW2 </div>]]></description>
