Question One: As a result of the signal fire, Ralph comes to realize the boys are losing touch with their humanity. Ralph starts to notice how untamed he has let his appearance become such as his long hair. This triggers him into bringing order back to the island and reinstating how the boys need to work together to reach their end goal of getting home. Everyone must pitch in and take this seriously, so no more accidents happen.

Question Two: After blowing the conch and gathering the boys, Ralph reminds them that although they might like not having rules, they really do need them. They have been given too much freedom and are not contributing anything to the civilization being created on the island. The boys cannot even do something as simple as using the bathroom where they are told. With things as chaotic as this, they were never going to get anywhere. Ralph just needs everyone to pitch in and work together. These are so significant because it is basic structure. As the boys start to neglect the little things asked of them, more will come. This shows they are slowly starting to lose who they once were.

Question 6: In chapter 5, Simon states, " maybe there is a beast" and continues onto, "maybe its only us." Simon believes that the beast is within each and every one of the boys. It is the true bloodlust of mankind that is masked by the influence of civilization. Now that the boys are on the island and given much more freedom than they had before, their true selves are coming out. He knows the boys do not want to face this truth and believes that is why they would rather fear some real life beast rather than the hate inside of them. Many of the boys think that the idea is crazy, and start to question if Simon himself could be the beast.

Question One: Ralph says to himself, "I'll be sucking my thumb next." He would not want this to be heard by any of the other boys because that is a trait that you usually see in a baby or toddler. This would make the boys perceive him as weak and immature and have less respect for him. This whole though was come across as he was realizing all the things he does now that he didn't before like the habit of biting his nails. You can see him losing his mind a bit by talking to himself.

Question 3: Immediately after their encounter with the pig, the group of boys pretend that Robert is the pig and start poking at him and saying a graphic chant. "Kill the pig! Cut his throat! Bash him in!" Even Ralph wants to be a part of the riot occurring. This is showing him giving into his primitive instincts as well. We can only guess as readers that Ralph will become like Jack and all control over the island will be lost.

The boys in their own minds have nothing to worry about anymore, when in reality they never did with Simon. While they will continue to disregard the more worrisome things.
