     ‘Perseid’ was given its name due to the location of the radiant being inside the constellation ‘Perseus’, which can be seen from August to March. However, Perseid, the actual meteor shower, can be seen 17 July to 24 August. The most action is predicted to be seen on 12 August around 11 pm. The brightness of the moon will make it slightly more difficult to see it though. Nonetheless, Perseid still remains the brightest meteor shower of the year. It also contains the comet, ‘Swift-Tuttle’, the largest known object known to make recurring passes near Earth. Speaking of, back in the 1990s, astronomer Brian Marsden predicted Swift-Tuttle to crash into Earth in some soon years, but, fortunately, he was proven wrong with better observations. Perseid meteors are fast, being they enter Earth’s atmosphere at 133, 200 mph, or 60 kilometers per second. Because of the speed it’s going at, it can heat up to 3,000 degrees fahrenheit (1,650 degrees celsius). 

     Geminid’s radiant is located in the constellation, ‘Gemini’, giving it the name of Geminid. This shower can be viewed during the dates of 4 December to 16 December at night, after sunset and before sunrise, with the most active day being 14 December. There is no specific way to look to see this particular shower, however it is best to look towards the south to get the best view.  Now, unlike Perseid, and most other meteor showers, instead of being associated with a comet, Geminid is associated with an asteroid, the 3200 Phaethon. This asteroid takes up 1.4 years to orbit the Sun. While Perseid is the brightest shower of the year, Geminid is known to be “the most spectacular” shower of the year, with a potential sighting of over 120 meteors per hour at its peak. 

     The radiant of Orinoid is located by the constellation ‘Orion’, giving the shower’s name of ‘Orinoid’. It is active every October, with its peak at 20 October. During this peak, up to 20 meteors are visible every hour. This shower is best seen right after midnight and just before dawn. It is best to look towards either the Northern Hemisphere or the Southern Hemisphere. This meteor shower is made from the debris of Comet Halley. This comet takes up to 76 years to make a full orbit around the Sun. It is the parent of not only Orinoid, but also Eta Aquarids, which is visible during the 19 April to 28 May, its peak being at around 5 or 6 May, and gets it’s name from the constellation, ‘Aquarius’.
