Around 8:30 angry Benghazi protesters gathered around the US embassy with high profile weapons chanting in Arabic. These people were primarily men with weapons ranging from RPG-7s, Ak-47s, and M94s. These men were marching due to a video published on youtube. The video was titled, “The Innocence of Muslims,” and referred Islams to a cancer which caused a stir of emotions in Libya. More and more people started to join in on the riot as it growed in anger. The men then started firing random shots and began to bang on the doors of the Embassy.

At 9:42pm gunfire rids the air as the soldiers and guards of the embassy quickly are alerted. Suddenly, loud explosions send the doors of the embassy clean off as a group of 150+ militia infiltrate the compound. These men used molotov cocktails to set fire to the barracks and the main compound. Explosions of hand grenades and RPGs slammed into the thick walls of the buildings. Immediately, the Benghazi compound US soldiers returned fire at the militia from different angles. The chaos continues to arise as the men head straight toward the main compound where US ambassador Christopher Stepehens is positioned. There, three men guard the ambassador as the group begins to surround the villa.

The attacks then begin to shift toward the CIA annex with militants attacking the villa with even more firepower. As these attacks continuously progressed periodically through the night, the team needed backup. Overhead, a surveillance drone appears in Benghazi, but doesn't do much for the operators there.  At 1:00 AM, a U.S. rescue team arrives from Tripoli. This rescue team successfully rescues thirty men from the surrounded compound.

An alert is sent out to an annex less than a mile away from the infiltrated compound. This alert was also sent to Tripoli, Libyans capitol which was over 600 miles away. The order was never fulfilled in time. The attackers then flood the main compound where the ambassador is located. There large steel doors block the entrance, so the militia sets the building on fire pouring diesel under the doors. The smoke and flames erupt, setting furniture, walls, and the building on fire. The three try to escape but are quickly overcome by the dense smoke. Agent Strickland finds a way out of the building, but only himself. He then sends an alert that the ambassador is stuck inside the burning building. Three agents arrive trying to save the trapped personnel. Agent Sean Smith's body was found, but the ambassador was nowhere to be seen. After another repeated search for the body of Christopher Stevens fails, the rest of the team leaves for the annex a mile away. Under fire, they arrive there safely after 15 minutes.

As some thought the attacks were over, multiple mortars were thrown over the walls of the compound exploding shrapnel all over. Officers Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods die in the explosion. As well as those two, several were severely injured. Finally around 6:00, Local Libyan forces finally arrive, taking the rest of the people at the compound to the nearest airport to be excised from Benghazi.
