Take for example pants. Pants were actually very uncommon for girls to wear before the 1960's as it was expected for women to wear around knee-length skirts. However, capris and bell bottoms started being worn by women. Mini skirts, which were started by designers Mary Quant and John Bates, also became popular for many teenagers. For men, Plaids were becoming more formal. Greaser's tended to be people who wanted to be "rebels without a cause" or "bad kids". These people were called Greasers, because of the hair gel they used on their hair to slick it back. The greaser subculture was influenced by 60's pop-culture like movies and TV Shows. Greasers tended to be white, male, middle class, and teenagers.
