- This is an award winning picture book, recognized by it's illustrations (Caldecott Honor). This book would be interesting to kids who like farm animals and humorous stories. Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type is about a group of cows that get a hold of a type writer. The cows decide to ask Farmer Brown for an electrical blanket, in exchange for milk. 
- I love this book because it is funny and easy for children to follow. This book would be great for primary grade levels.
- I could use this book to teach a lesson about word families. For example the world "cold" shows up multiple times through out the story. The word family is /-old/.

He meets Santa and receives a special gift from him. I love the Polar Express because it tells a beautiful story about believing. The setting also takes place around my favorite holiday, Christmas. 
- I could use this book to talk about similes and metaphors within the author's writing. For example, "We drank hot cocoa as thick and rich as melted chocolate bars." We could also compare descriptive writing vs plain language and how it makes the reader feel.

- This picture book is about a young girl who loves reading and listening to stories. Grace enjoys acting out her favorite stories as well. Her class decided to put on play (Peter Pan), she is determined to play the lead role. However, her classmates discourage her by saying that she cannot be Peter Pan because he is a boy and she is black. With the encouragement of her family and her passion for acting, Grace auditions and takes the role of Peter Pan. 
- I absolutely love this book because for one she expresses her love for story-telling. It also sends a great message that anyone can reach their dreams, if they are determined. Students in older grades would enjoy this book.
- I would use this book in a comprehension lesson. Amazing Grace is a rich thought-provoking story. Within this lesson, older students should be able to make connections and reflect on the story line. - Cloudy with a chance of meatballs is a picture book narrated by the main character's grandpa, who tells a story about a town far away. Chewandswallow was no ordinary town, the weather involved food pouring from the sky. Things were great until several storms got out of control and all citizens had to leave. These people had to adjust to normal grocery shopping habits. 
- This book would be interesting to kids who like fantasies, food and fiction. 
 - I would use this book to teach story sequencing because it includes many detailed events. - This is a nonfiction book about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his fight to equality. I gravitated towards this book at the library because it seemed relatable to children (given the cover). It is basically a timeline of Dr. King's life from his childhood to his famous speech. I really liked this book because Dr. King played the role of a child throughout the book. It was very informative and told stories at the same time. I also loved how it included many pictures and even speech bubbles. 
- This book would be interesting to kids who love to learn about history, influential people and even students who like graphic novels (because of the set-up). 
- I would use this specific book for beginning research. Social Studies does not have its equal share within the curriculum, and it is essential for our students to know about the important people who shaped this country. - This Caldecott winner is a picture book written by Leo Lionni. It is about a fish named Swimmy, who escapes getting eaten by a tuna fish. He makes his way around the ocean and comes across a school of fish (just like him). Swimmy shows them how to arrange themselves in a form of a giant fish. With this technique, they are able to swim arround and explore the ocean. 
- This book would be interesting to children who like adventure and the ocean. Problem solvers would also really enjoy this book. 
- I could use this book to teach a lesson on character analysis. Swimmy was a strong character who changed how the other fish viewed the ocean. - This book was tagged on Twitter's #TitleTalk as a hot new release. This picture book is about an exciting village that is full of singing and laughter. The majority of them suggest that they need peace and quiet. So they decide to elect a new boring mayor who outlaws singing and anything loud. However there is a rooster who loves to sing and does not mind doing it in front of the new mayor. After fighting for his freedom to sing, the village people join him and eventually run off the mayor. 
- This story is about the importance of freedom and fighting for your beliefs. I feel like older students (maybe in 3rd, 4th & 5th) would really appreciate this book. It has a great moral that all students to hear. Students who love strong characters and inspiration would love this story.
- I would use this book to develop a writing prompt. - This is a beautiful poetic story was tagged on Twitter's #TitleTalk. It is about a house that was once stones and bricks. The author's note at the end, lets the reader know that she was describing her childhood home. I enjoyed this book because portrays the message that everything comes from something. Stones, bricks and an oak tree became someone's special home. 
- Older students who love poetry, would really enjoy this story. Students who like looking at art would also really love this book because it has beautiful illustrations. 
- I could use this book as reflection piece. Students can write about their homes and what it means to them. - This picture book was featured on Twitter's #TitleTalk tag. It is about a young boy who is named after his dad (Thunder Boy). He does not like this name because he is nicknamed "Little Thunder." He wants a new name that will highlight something cool that he has accomplished. At the end of the story his dad gives him a new name, Lightning. The little boy is so excited. Their love between father and son will be both bright and loud. This book was also awarded the Caldecott honor. 
- Children who like books about families and adventure would enjoy this book. Little Thunder describes some of the cool things he has done so far. 
- I feel like students would love to find out what happened after his dad gave him a new name. I would use this book to open up creative thinking. - This book is about 2 friends that lived through the Civil War. They find a wounded union soldier and take him in until he recovers. This book is a mix between fiction and nonfiction. This story is very informational and includes a lot of historical terms (seceding, abolitionists...). I like how this book is written because it addresses the ready as a child. Older students could easily read and understand this book.
- Students who love to learn about American history would enjoy this book.  Friendship is also valued in this book, so many students can relate to it. 
- I would use this book during a history lesson. Not only does this book talk about the Civil War, but it also discusses the lifestyle in the 1860's. - This is a nonfiction picture about about the life of Malala. Malala stood against the Taliban in her fight for girl's education. She was shot by the Taliban, but that did not stop her activism. She has received many awards including a Nobel Peace Prize. Malala is the youngest person to receive this award. I like this book because it talks about the value of education. 
- Children how are interested in history, leadership or education would enjoy this book. This book is more appropriate for older students (4th & 5th grade). 
- This would be a great book to use when teaching about activism. It covers the main points in Malala's life and her passion that was developed at a young age. - This nonfiction book is about John Newbery. It follows his life from childhood until adulthood, with a focus on his love for books. He started up opening a bookstore and eventually began to publish books. I love this book because Markel expresses the importance of children's literature.

- This graphic novel is apart of the Babymouse series. Babymouse is planning a huge event for her birthday party. However, Felicia (the mean girl) decided to plan her birthday party on the same day as Babymouse's party. This story follows Babymouse as she tries to make her party better than Felicia (based on what people are saying). I like this book because Babymouse has a strong and funny personality. I look forward to reading more from the Holms. 
- This would be a great book for a second grader because it is a mix between a chapter book and a picture book. This graphic novel would be interesting to kids who like event planning. 
- I could use this graphic novel in a lesson about conflict. Babymouse had to come up with a solution when she found out that Falicia was having her party the same day as her. - I found this picture book through the #TitleTalk search on Twitter. It is about a little boy (Ruben) who walks home after school with another boy named Sergio (Sergio rides his bike). Ruben really wants a bike, however his family is not able to afford it. He notices that a lady drops a $100 bill on accident and he holds onto it. At the end of the story Ruben runs into the same lady and decides to give the money back. 
- Every kid could relate to this book, because we have all been in this type of situation. This is a good read for older students. 
- Aside from teaching a lesson about feelings and emotions, I can also use this book to talk about word choice (and why words matter). For example, when Ruben says, "Rain and tears feel the same," why didn't he just say "I feel sad." -  This would be a great book for children who are starting to experiment with chapter book (usually in 1st or 2nd grade). Girls would also enjoy this book because they main character is a female.

- This is an upper-grade non-fiction chapter book. This book is about Rosa Parks and how she influenced the Civil Rights movement. It also follows her life through childhood and provides the reader with facts about who she truly was, as a person. I gravitated towards this book because I was told that the "Who Was..." book are very informative.
- This book would be great for 3rd graders because it is a little advanced for 2nd grade. This book would also be a perfect fit for kids who like to read about important people who have made an impact in society. 
- I would use this book to teach a lesson on informative text. We would look at how to read long non-fiction books. - This is the 2nd book in the Mouse Scouts early chapter book series. It is about a scout troop who is working together to earn their "make a difference badge." The main characters are Violet and Tigerlily. At first they can't really decide what they want to do to make a difference. However, they end up saving a cat (Big Red), after he gets stuck on a tree. 
- This book would be interesting to young girls who are starting to explore chapter books. Girl scouts would be especially enjoy this book series.

- This upper-grade chapter book is about a boy named Auggie who is born with a facial deformity. It follow his journey, as he attends school for the first time (private). He has always been home-schooled. The book also takes several different perspectives: Auggie (the main character), Via (his sister), Summer (Auggie's friend), Jack (Auggie's friend), Justin (Via's boyfriend) and Miranda (Via's former best friend).
- I would recommend this book to kids in 4th or 5th grade. This book would be interesting to many kids because it is about a school experience and friendship. 
- I would use this book to teach a lesson about characters or maybe to teach about open book discussions and reflecting. This book has many characters and some of them change like Jack and some of the bullies. It is important to talk about the types of characters and how/why they change. This book also provides many important points that can be talked about in class like kindness and self-consciousness.

For example, their emotional depth is very low and it is difficult for them to think outside of the box. The book follows a 12 year old boy named Jonas. Jonas is assigned his life-time job as a Receiver of Memory. 
- This book would be perfect for students who are interested in the unknown. Students who love creativity would also enjoy this book, as it looks at our society in a different way. This book would be great for older students maybe in 6th or 7th grade.
- I could use this book to teach about descriptive writing and word choice. Reading this book as a class, could also spark some great classroom discussions about how our society works and how it compares to the novel. It is believed that a curse was placed on his great-great grandfather. Stanley and the other boys at this camp are instructed to dig large holes. 3 stories are told explaining why there is a curse and what they are trying to find as they dig. 
- This book would be interesting to kids who like humor and suspense. Holes has a great lead and continues to keep the reader engaged. I would recommend this book to 4th graders. 
- I would use this book to teach sequencing since there are 3 stories that are written within the novel. We could even create a timeline as a class to keep track. - This book would be interesting to boys since they main character in a male. Children who love inventions and creativity would also really enjoy this book. I would recommend this book to 4th graders.

So many changes are happening and Jupiter is uncomfortable.
