For every Latvian, November 18 is the most important national holiday, commemorating the creation of the independent Latvian state in 1918.

Remembering and honoring the feat of the volunteers, after Lithuania regained its independence, every year, on January 1st, on the day of the Lithuanian flag, a solemn flag changing ceremony is held at the Gediminas mountain tower. According to tradition, the old flag is handed over for safekeeping to one of the schools in Lithuania that excels in developing citizenship and nurturing historical memory.

We created the City of Light. In it shone the mystery of Christmas, to which we traveled on the white roads of silence. Teacher Jurgita softly played Advent songs with her kankle, and the children of the pre-school group sang Christmas carols. "Even when it's dark, we're not afraid, our hearts are light!"

This wonderful city was created by art teacher Lina, and the event was hosted by theater teacher Dovilė

Mismatched Socks Day has the simple desire to reach out and bring together in one big colorful hug all the people who feel a little mismatched.

“All the same, all different, all important “ is the slogan of this important event for Italian schools.

We begin by reading the illustrated book "An extraordinary day for mismatched socks" (Mondadori, 2023). It's the turn of a free drawing for each child, then we move on to choosing the most beautiful drawing which will be included in the school book created for this occasion. The next activity is a group one and the children color the protagonists of the story and then glue them on a poster which will be the center of our ritual photo of the day of mismatched socks.

They learn to find and recognize the right colors, put the colored roller in the right place.

At school: blessing of bread, collection of food for the poor, playing of drummers, among whom there are children who attend our school.

In the afternoon: procession through the streets of the city, with drummers playing and at the end, fireworks.

The traditions of Fastelavn vary somewhat by country and by local region, as some traditions have changed over time. A common theme of Fastelavn in all the countries currently involves children dressing up in costumes, walking door to door while they sing and gathering treats for the Fastelavn feast, a form of trick-or-treating. Today, the festivities of Fastelavn are generally considered to be a time for children’s fun and family games.

Fastelavn is celebrated seven weeks before Easter Sunday and therefore always falls on a Sunday between February 1 and March 7.
