Students will also analyze text and compare to other texts. <br><strong>3.</strong> Students will write an informational piece describing a role model of their choice and how they have made an impact for equality. <br><strong>4. </strong>Students will write a Text-Dependent Analysis based on "The Story of Ruby Bridges", the articles provided and using at least 1 video. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Background Information for Why I Chose Ruby Bridges and this Unit: </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Currently, I teach 3rd grade. In my district we use Reader's Workshop from the Teacher's College.&nbsp;<br>-This unit can be completed during Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop and also during Social Studies.&nbsp;<br>-Social Studies can be integrated for the history of these two women but also the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the affect it had on equality. <br>-For our informational unit, "The Story of Ruby Bridges" is used as a mentor text for students.&nbsp;<br>-Ruby Bridges was a first grader when a judge decided that she would be the first African American student to attend an all-white school. Ruby is faced with angry mobs as she went to school for the first day. Ruby became an American Civil Right Activist.&nbsp;<br>-The Story of Ruby Bridges about the young girls perseverance and forgiveness in the face of hate and racism.</div>]]></description>

Scholastic has many resources to teach during Women's History Month. &nbsp;<br>-Teachers can set students up with these resources on computers or iPads and allow students to gather information about Rosa Parks. They will then be able to use information about Rosa Parks and compare her to Ruby Bridges and the impact these women have made on history.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I would use the clips and instructional resources to teach my 3rd graders about Ruby Bridges. I chose Ruby Bridges because she faced a lot of hate and injustices at such a young age. Young students have a greater chance of connecting to Ruby Bridges to understand what she has done as a Civil Rights activist.&nbsp;<br>Ruby Bridges can teach students that young girls and women can stand up for what is right and can be the ones that are making a change in the world. Young girls and boys need to experience a positive female role model in order to understand the importance of equality. </div>]]></description>
