Our school is located in Zarautz (Basque Country). Zarautz is an upper middle class town where Orokieta is the only state school. This circumstance gives the school some special characteristics. The most relevant is that our pupils come from families with very different socioeconomic levels. This has always been a challenge for us, as our main aim is to provide all of them the same opportunities. In order to take advantage of this diversity we became a “Learning Community” 13

years ago, and from then on that is our main identity seal. Being a “Learning Community” means that parents and students take active part in school organization and life, working in different mixed committees. Moreover, we use

methods that according to the European project “Learning Communities” improve students’ academic results, such as Interactive Groups and Dialogical Discussions.
