If 25 percent of our community doesn’t have faith that that their co-workers are working in faith with right intentions, I don’t know how these conversations can be productive. In fact, just knowing that people answered that way, creates more distrust.

Is it naïve to think we can teach values without assumptions about political leanings? Is it disingenuous to claim to be outside of politics when there’s a specific party that is anti-God and anti-family? Of course, most Americans fall in the middle, but when our core values are attacked and teachers unions are overtly against parental rights and Christian values, people must wake up and understand there’s no neutrality. “If you’re lukewarm, you’ll be spewed out.” We’re in a culture war that’s imbedded in politics. If you don’t like the political leader of the party, argue with God-does He not set up the governments? Everyone has to pray about their calling. It seems the only way forward is to encourage everyone to be prayerful, work within their convictions, and be respectful online and offline. And with that, understand that none of your colleagues are called to the same place and purpose as you. If someone is called to be bold and disrupt, they better be obedient to the calling. If someone is called to be gentle and focus on service, their calling isn’t more Christian than the bold voice. Thank goodness for the diversity of gifting and calling in the body of Christ.

In answering the question about how I judge my co-worker's commitment to our mission; I found it difficult to decide. How can I know for sure how they feel about the mission? I can't possibly know everyone's heart. I believe the best about them, so that's how I answered. But I agree, it creates distrust. Further, what is the purpose of this? There was little framework given ahead of time. Even the promptings given about how teachers, parents, and students feel about politics created a sense of distrust. Political subject matter is a tiny fraction of what we talk about in my classes; we talk about social issues daily, but always framed by Biblical values and responses. I can tell you that the issues I'm talking about with my fellow teachers have little to do with the upcoming election; we are talking about the declining social and mental health of our students, the rise in rough parent interactions, and the decrease in ability for our students to pay attention/respect classroom rules.
