It's my first day here and I already got a lot of knowledge’s about this resort from HR department's staff. The HR department briefing us about the department we should cover in 4 months. They are 4 main departments we should done which is FRONT OFFICE DEPARTMENT, KITCHEN DEPARTMENT, HOUSE KEEPING AND FOOD AND BEVERAGE.  They bring us for a short tour around the hotel before gives us our relax time. They also advised us to behave and always give our best in anything that we being assigned to do. I am excited to start my day here for tomorrow.

In morning shift there are Breakfast time starting from 7.30 am until 10.30 am and then Lunch time starting from 12.30 pm until 2.30 pm. So for today, there are 160 pax for breakfast. It will be a buffet when the customer more than 25 pax. Daily breakfast here will consider as buffet. Menu for breakfast today are Noodles Soup Counter, Roti Canai counter, traditional Malay and Chinese kueh, Plain Porridge, Plain Rice,’ Curry Mackerel, Chicken Cocktail, Fried Kuey Teow, Waffle, Dim Sum, Watermelon and Pineapple Fruits, and also hot Coffee and Tea. Meanwhile there are 32 pax guests for lunch. My task for lunch time is just watch the coupon counter, collect the coupon from customers. There are only 30 pax of customers come to lunch meanwhile another 2 didn’t come without any reason.

Then after that there is our rest time from 11 pm until 12 pm. Then we do preparation for lunch starting from 12 pm if its buffet. If not buffet, we just need to wait for customer then we tell the kitchen. Then when food already, we need to serve to customer. Today had 29 pax guests, which mean Kitchen will prepare the buffet. Today Lunch menu are Plain Rice, Chicken with Soy Sauce, Chicken Soup, French Fries, Fruits and Salads, Shrimp Paste, Pickles, Fruit Cocktail and also hot Tea and Coffee.

Other than take the customer plate, I do top up the foods if the foods already finished. When a lot of customers come to eat at the same time, there will have problem for example lack of clean plate or spoon. Also at that time, I will be very busy due to lack of staffs member. Meanwhile, in lunch time, there are about 19 pax of customer so today doesn’t have a buffet. Then Kitchen will already cook for the customers. Usually when doesn’t have a buffet, they will prepared Plain rice with mackerel cooked with 3 flavours’, Tom yam Soup, Kailan Vegetable with salted fish, Fruits also Juice drink.

Today breakfast menu are Nasi Minyak, Noodles Soup Counter, Roti Canai counter, traditional Malay and Chinese kueh, Plain Porridge, Fried Chicken, Fried Noodle, Waffle, Dim Sum, Watermelon and Pineapple Fruits, and also hot Coffee and Tea. There are 198 pax overall but only 180 pax come to breakfast. I think it’s because of raining in the morning. For lunch, there are only 16 pax, so no buffet for lunch today.

So I started my work at 3 pm meanwhile in morning shift there is Kak Mimi. And today also one of Front Office staff, Parshant, from Nepal forced to quit due to his leg problem. Meanwhile Sanjit, another Nepali staff works from 11 am until 11 pm. I’m not really expert to handle the problems happen in reception department, so if I had any problem I called direct to my supervisor a.k.a Operation Manager, En Zaidi to help. Kak Mimi also will come in 7 pm to help me. Today Shari-La Island Resort got 20 check out rooms and 23 check in rooms including Bungalow. Actually Bungalow rarely got guest because of the price a bit higher compare than the rest rooms. Plus the bungalow only give breakfast coupon for only 6 pax but the Bungalow can fit until 10 persons in one time.

So I just give the suggestion for them to search at the resort nearby for example Ombak Resort and Senja Bay Resort. Then I do the same task as yesterday which is write the food coupons for tomorrow. It’s actually intended to avoid the morning shift for tomorrow get so busy with the many guests waiting for their turn to check in.

This group used 20 standard rooms, 5 deluxe rooms, 1 suite room (also honeymoon package) and 1 VIP room. The situation so crowded with people in reception area. Today I start my work from 10 am until 6 pm because I need to help Kak Sue and Kak Mimi in front. They doesn’t had enough people to handle this big group due to every guest in this group will pay individually.

Our job went well until the completion of all the rooms in the afternoon. I’m a bit tired when rush with work plus had some room become waiting room (that mean that rooms already has guest check in) but literally  I’m very satisfied with the enthusiasm and cooperation of the staff.

All the check-out rooms already finish in morning before lunch, 1 pm. While in afternoon we only keep awake for sending any towel to guest room or send mattress or any makeup room possible.

I have learned to clean the room from the front came to a toilet. Work is tiring but worth acquiring meaningful experiences this. Today there are 23 check out rooms including one bungalow and 29 check in rooms.

Sharila resort got 17 check in rooms today and 17 check out rooms. Nothing different from yesterday, our job is doing well from day to day. I also follow the instruction from Prodeep very well. For information, Prodeep almost 1 years here and can speak in bahasa very well.

A lot of knowledge and skills I have got from here. I feel a bit sad because I will leave a lot of sweet and sad memory here. I just keep in my mind after this. Because of last day, I take this chance to take memory picture with all Shari-La’s staff. Shari-La got 14 check out rooms and 16 check in room include 2 vip rooms.
