Orleanna discovers the African culture. Orleanna remembered the market days vividly. The "smell of Africa" remained familiar. The market days were ran so habitually that the vendors were unfazed by the day, while Orleanna felt as if she didn't belong in such an environment. Also, Orleanna struggled with adapting her family to the environment around them because they weren't willing to put in any effort into experiencing the culture. Orleanna notices that Nathan is drifting from the family and criticizes more while Axelroot is trying to affect her economically. Orleanna also discovered politics from a stand point in Africa, she heard things that political figures claiming they don't care about the well being of people in the congo, and bringing down the people of the congo. In this chapter Orleanna is compared the Lots wife becuase of her desire to constantly look back at the past and dwell on it.
