One of the places that this event took place was in the Mississippi river. When the 17th century started, France was exploring the Mississippi river valley and set up settlements around the area. In 1762, France gave up French Louisiana to Spain and in 1763 moved almost all of its North American properties left to Great Britain. Another place that the Louisiana Purchase took place in was New Orleans. In 1802, Spanish powers put an end to a U.S. Spanish treaty. Answering to this situation, Thomas Jefferson sent the upcoming U.S. president James Monroe to Paris.
