They are not our properties! Animals are used for entertainment purposes, scientific experiments, clothing, food so and so on. Does not this make you feel like a monster? Even though we have done detrimental things to our home ,the World, we keep doing such bad things to our friends with paws. We know as a fact that animals have their own rights. They cannot protect their rights because they don't speak our language but we have to take precautions in order to keep them alive and keep us alive. There is a link between cruelty to animals and cruelty to humans. Moreover, we know as a fact that humans are destroying the world and this world is also animals' home.

For many thousands of years cats and dogs have existed alongside us. They have changed for us, helped us live comfortable lives, helped us gain more knowledge, made our lives more enjoyable, even went to space for us!

The only thing they expect from us is our affection and some food.

But unfortunately the sad reality is that many of our friends with paws get hurt every day around the world. As we have domesticated them, we as as a species have a duty to provide for these adorable animals.

Laws:
Upon my research I've found out that the parliamentary committee has been talking about implementing a new law:

The committee suggests at least three years in prison for maltreatment and torture of animals. It also recommended the establishment of "animal police," a police department specialising in crimes against animals. With the new law, while animal caretakers will be selected from among certificated experts who have expertise on physical development, there will also be some developments in educational curricula as fourth grade students will receive lessons on animal rights to create awareness.

Although it hasn't passed yet, it will be much better than how things are now. I've found out that animals are seen as commodities under the current law. I'm happy to see that it's starting to get better, though.

Organisations:

Animal Rights Watch Committee.

Taken from their website:

Animal Rights Watch Committee is the first civil initiative that monitors and reports animal rights violations in Turkey without any distinction for all animal species.

The Committee works in several fields from exposure of animal rights abuses to legal struggle, from analysis of media discourse to data collection of right violations. They also designed and applied a workshop program for children on animal rights with the support of experts.

Animal Rights Watch Committee systematically reported the animal rights violations for the first time without any species distinction in Turkey. It worked for creating awareness on public about these right abuses, lobbied and struggled to improve legal regulations. Thus, for a more equal and peaceful world, it created a huge difference in the lives of all living creatures.

Violence Report:
This is the most disheartening part of the assignment. According to HAKİM (Animal Rights Watch Committee), animal violence is unfortunately on the rise.

Through the history, even before humans, animals were on earth. As the time passed, humans interacted with animals in many different ways. At the beginning, it was like a clash to survive, hunting each other for food and protecting yourself from carnivores. But by inventions humans had advantage over animals. Humans started to show their greed and savagery. They hunted animals not only for food but also for clothing, grocery, pleasure and used them for amusement and experiments. Humans also tamed some species, both for good and bad reasons. Today, humans are divided into 2 group, animal friends and cruels. Now, we are trying to protect them against the ones who buy pets and throw out after 2 weeks and who torture them. Mostly, friendly animals are harmed because they don't think that humans are a threat. It's the shame of humanity.

In Turkish Laws, unfortunately, everything except humans are accepted as objects. For example, if you own an animal it becomes your good. If someone harms or kills your animal, the punishment is the same with your bicycle. The punishment is decided according to harm level. It didn't finish yet, it's worse for unowned animals. They don't have any rights and people who harm them only get a small fine to pay. It's impossible to get them jugded by court, they pay and continue to harm animals.
Now, with the hard work of animal associations, a new and comprehensive law for animals is being discussed at council. We hope that it will solve the problems and cover the spaces of old law.
