Henry Ford's Model T Ford, which made automobile ownership affordable to ordinary Americans, was the most significant invention of this century. The vehicle transformed America, both economically and socially. Besides, Ford increased workers' pay to $5 per day and standardized the workday to eight hours, which was a drop from the norm at the time. Ford's assembly line also provided more racial equality than other jobs at the time; he paid white and black employees equally. Many African Americans from the South traveled to Detroit and other big northern cities to work in factories in search of these earnings. Ford molded the nation's industrialism to rely on providing reasonable salaries so that workers could afford to buy their own products.

Firstly, Henry Ford's advancements in assembly-line efficiency resulted in a really inexpensive automobile, allowing many Americans to purchase a car. Secondly, advertising grew to be as large a business as the manufactured products it represented, and many families depended on new kinds of credit to enhance their consumption levels as they sought a new American standard of life. Last but not least, the 1920s saw not just a revolution in inland transportation, but also significant advancements in air travel.

Movies and sports grew immensely popular during this time period, while commercial radio and publications elevated athletes and actors to national icons. As the popularity of "moving pictures" rose in the early part of the decade, cinemas with seating for thousands of people sprung up in major cities. People of all ages went to the movies more frequently, often more than once a week. By the end of the decade, weekly moviegoers had risen to 90 million. Radios were a prominent element in American homes in the 1920s after being introduced during World War I. Hundreds of radio stations sprung up during the decade. These stations produced and aired news, serial tales, and political speeches. Radio had a role in popularizing sports stars and their achievements.

The 1929 stock market crash, the collapse of international commerce owing to the Smoot-Hawley Tariff, government policies, bank failures, panics, and the collapse of the money supply are all potential causes of the Great Depression. It originated with the October 1929 stock market crisis, which threw Wall Street into a frenzy and wiped out millions of investors. Consumer spending and investment fell over the following several years, resulting in sharp drops in industrial production and employment as faltering businesses lay off workers. The stock market crash destroyed nominal wealth, both corporate and private, driving the United States economy into a spiral. The unemployment rate in the United States was 3.2 percent in early 1929.
