"'My father was not scientific, and I was left to struggle with a child's blindness, added to a student's thirst for knowledge. Under the guidance of my new preceptors I entered with the greatest diligence into the search of the philosopher's stone and the elixir of life; but the latter soon obtained my undivided attention. Wealth was an inferior object, but what glory wold attend the discovery if I could banish disease from the human frame and render man invulnerable to any but a violent death!'" (Shelley 25-26).

Although this quote had the word discovery in it, I find it to be more about Victor Frankenstein's need to uncover something great. He has this mindset that is telling him he needs to discover something new and powerful. He is obsessed with the idea of becoming someone great.

I, who had ever been surrounded by amicable companions, continually engaged in endeavoring to bestow mutual pleasure-I was now alone'" (Shelley 30).

"'His limbs were in proportion, and I has selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriance only formed a more horrid contrast with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun-white sockets in which they were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips'" (Shelley 42).
