= Yes, the term of gaze shows the desire, something that the humans wants. So when the media portrays or shows certain aspect in perspective of a male, people will feel unsatisfied or frustrated as it is contradictory to what they need. The theory itself meant something negative, a structure of power meant to look at others as an object not a fellow human being.

Mulvey’s theory was developed in the 1970s. Based on your observation, has media representation changed since then?

= Media representation has changed a lot but the male gaze hasn’t completely disappeared. Many media or films have been challenging the male gaze by showing the reverse, film gaze, and critiquing the male gaze. There were also many stronger and complex female characters becoming heroes or leaders shown in film characters and now more women are telling stories that bring out the diversity and authenticity of female characters.

Yes, I agree with the theory of the male gaze because media has a powerful way of shaping how we see the world. Through things like camerawork, angles, and even the music used in a scene, the media can influence our perception of women and men without us even realizing it. When women are constantly shown in a sexualized or objectified way, it becomes easy to unconsciously adopt that perspective. So I think it’s natural that we end up being influenced by the way media presents people.
Yes, definitely. Since Mulvey’s theory in the 1970s, media representation has changed a lot. Nowadays, many creators actively try to avoid making content that feels male gaze-y, especially with growing awareness of how harmful and limiting that perspective can be. We’re also seeing more media created through the lens of the female gaze, which focuses more on emotional depth, mutual connection, and how characters feel rather than just how they look.

This can affect how women see themselves and how men see women. It also teaches us what is "attractive" or "right" based on a male point of view. When men are shown in media, they are often powerful or strong, which also shapes how people think men should be. So yes, the media does influence how we see gender without us even realizing it.
Yes, media has changed since Mulvey’s theory in the 1970s. Today, we see more women shown as strong, smart, and independent. There are also more female directors and writers who tell stories from a woman’s point of view. However, some movies and ads still show women mainly for their looks.
