They were refused service when one of the students requested coffee. The student remained present at the lunch counter despite receiving harmful threats from the white patrons in the store. The students began to be assaulted by the white patrons but not show any type of resistance so they could show the world the destructive behavior and unfair laws that were in the U.S. After the college students aka the demonstrators were taken in custody by authorities another group of student took their place at the four vacant seats the previous demonstrators sat in. Before the end of the school year an estimate of 1500 blacks demonstrators were arrested.
