Madison sitler Ms. Cronrath ELA 8 Pd.3January 20, 2017 The author uses specific examples of imagery and diction in the story called "Story of an Eyewitness" to communicate scope and to affect the reader. Also it shows how the story would be and feel like in real life. Some examples of this is that in the passage it mentions that "Nothing remains of San Francisco but memories and a fringe dwelling houses and it's outskirts." The effect of imagery and diction in the story of an eyewitness is to make the reader feel the experience of the disaster, it also makes the reader feel fast paste and scared. How they use imagery in the passage is that it says "Half the heart of the city was gone." So that means that their is very little bit of the city left so half of the rest of it is gone. The effect of imagery and diction is that, diction and imagery try to make us feel that we are in the place that they are talking about. It also explains what they saw. What it states in the passage is that, "I saw a sofa floating near a framed photo of Muhammad Ali standing triumph over Sonny Liston." How it shows imagery in the passage is that it states, he passes a house with a shattered plate-glass window and the street lines were at eye level and the traffic lights were barley above the surface of the water. At the end of the story's called "Story of an Eyewitness" it shows a upsetting but happy mood because they made it out alive and half of the people were okay. The other story that is called "Letter from Orleans: Breaking desire" is that this story shows a upsetting and thankful mood, it's upsetting because the man didn't get to keep his dog with him, and it's thankful because he made it out alive because the people that helped him get out of his house. Both stories conclude that there was a natural disaster because in the story called "Story of an eyewitness" their was a hurricane that had started where he lived. Also, in the other story all "Letter from Orleans: Breaking desire" there was a huge flood. So both story's show a upsetting ending.

There were people dragging trunks up the hill and then they notice that the fire is so widespread so by the time they get to the top of the hill the fire is already on the other side of the hill. Also this fire was very destructive. Here are some examples of the effect of imagery and diction is to show the despritness of the people getting chased out of there homes and San Francisco by the fire and to make the reader feel fast past and scared. The author makes the reader feel fast past and a scared mood because, the fire is very widespread and destructive also known as Conflagration. The effect of imagery and diction in the story "Letter for New Orleans:Leaving Desire" is that there were many things going wrong with the city of the destruction that Hurricane Katrina caused. People had to let there belongings go because, the water was rising very fast and they had no time to drag there stuff with them. The author cites evidence from the text to show how the distraction with hurricane Katrina that went wrong with the city. At the end of both stories "The story of an eyewitness" and a "Letter from New Orleans:leaving desire" shows an upsetting mood and the other mood in the the other story is happy.

Both Authors use imagery and diction to make readers feel the experience of the disasters.

In "the story of an eyewitness", Jack London the author makes it fast and scary. For example the fire is everywhere, and in under 15 minutes it will be here. It's scary because the fire is fast. The author shows the speed of the fire, because the guy with the 600,000 value said my house will be burnt under 15 minutes. It has a lot of tension because they had to carry trunks and realized that they couldn't save their stuff because the fire was everywhere. In leaving Desire uses imagery by toxic water and how high the water levels are.First it says toxic It water so I know how the water was good or bad.It also said that it could make you very sick and even kill you. Then it says how high the water was.It told me this to show me how high the water is.Also the scope for the second story is a narrow scope and it much slower than the other story about the fire. All in all both storys used imagery and had scopes in it.

Autumn Welliver Ms.CronrathELA 8 Pd.3January 20, 2017 The author uses specific examples of imagery and diction to communicate scope and to affect the reader, to show what it would be like in real life. The effect of imagery and diction is to make the reader feel the experience of the disaster, it also makes the reader feel a fast paste and scary. The author uses evidence from the text for example, nothing remains of San Francisco but fringe of dwelling houses, the factories and warehouses, the great stores and newspaper buildings, the hotels and the palaces of the nabobs were all gone. The author cites evidence from the text to show how if this happened in real life what would or life's be like, Would they be miserable or happy? I'm pretty sure that our life's would be miserable, so it kind of draws the reader in. The story "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" the effect uses imagery and diction because there were many things going wrong with the city because of the distraction that Hurricane Katrina caused. In the passage it states, "we passed a house with shattered plater glass windows." The street lines were at an eye level and the traffic was barley above the surface of water. The author cites evidence from the text to show how the destruction caused with Hurricane Katrina which went wrong in the city. At the end of both stories "The story of an Eyewitness" and "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" one of the stories which is "The story of an Eyewitness" shows an upsetting mood and the other story is "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" has an unhappy mood in the beginning because he could not take his dog because he didn't feel safe taking him with him. At the end of that story is a thankful mood because the people helped Alladio out of his house but the dog could not go because there was not enough room on the jet ski, they were running out of time so they were rushing. Both of these stories conclude that there was a natural disaster and they were both sad at the end because in the "Story of an Eyewitness" their was a hurricane where they lived. In the other story "Letter from New Orleans: Leaving Desire" they had to carry trunks with all their belongings in it because of the of the flood they had where they lived, so both of these stories have natural disasters with flooding and hurricanes.
