Characters: Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf
Similarities: both are brave, have quick thinking, are companions to the Thorin and company, and have saved said group from capture.

Differences: Bilbo is unadventurous and tends to stay away from anything dangerous in his little, discreet life while Gandalf is often the one looking for trouble and adventure which often gets little Bilbo the hobbit into more trouble than both of them are worth.
