Around 1500: The Silk Road

The Silk Road was an important trade route that was made in China where it goes to the Mediterranean Basin. The Silk Road was created around 130 B.C.E. and it exchanged goods such as paper, silk, porcelains, gunpowder, and the compass.

The Industrial Revolution 1700-1900

The Industrial Revolution was a major shift of technological, medical, and cultural changes and advancements. It was called Industrialization. It began in England around (1750-1800) due to its natural resources such as coal and iron and also the improvement of the steam engine.

1350-1600: The Creation of Humanism

The Renaissance started around 1350 which was the rebirth of Greek and Roman classical culture in Italy. Erasmus was a man who wanted people to be the best that they can be, so he sought out to show that individuals have the most important value. Erasmus is known as the father of humanism because he developed humanistic theology by advocating tolerance to reform the Catholic Church while he was a member.

American Expansion 1776-1900

The United States expanded from the original 13 colonies to include land all the way to the Pacific Ocean. The United States expanded through economic, political, and military means. The largest piece of territory was acquired through the Louisiana Purchase from France.

First Battle of the Marne (Sept 6-10, 1914)

Trench Warfare was first used during the Battle of the Marne. The two sides that were fighting were Great Britain and France vs Germany. In the end, Great Britain and France prevented the Germans from conquering France during the first year of the war.

1519-1521: The Exploration of Hernando Cortez

During the European Exploration, Hernando Cortez explored the northwestern part of Mexico for the country of Spain. He found the Aztec Empire and conquered the leader Montezuma; this lead to Hernando Cortez to find a lot of gold in northwestern Mexico which led to the economic deprive of Spain.

Miracle of Dunkirk May - June 3 1940

The Miracle of Dunkirk was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbor of Dunkirk. Over 338,000 Allied soldiers were rescued to Britain. The French troops were also rescued along with the British troops during the evacuation.

1643-1715: King Louis XIV in France

King Louis XIV was a leader in France during the Age of Absolutism, and he centralized all power to himself. He built the palace of Versailles and got rid of the Edict of Nantes so that there was no more religious freedom. King Louis XIV gained control over the nobility by bringing them to the grand palace in Versailles which was used as a symbol of royal power.

Egypt Breaking Off From Being British Protectorate In 1922

After Egypt broke off from being British Protectorate and Gamal Abdul Nasser became the president of Egypt. He Nationalized Suez Canal that is now controlled by Egypt. He also established relations with the Soviet Union. He also built Aswan High Dam along the Nile River which regulates the flood waters of the Nile River. He gained full independence from Britain in 1956 and became the Leader of pan-Arab nationalism.

1453: The Conquering of the Ottomans

The Ottoman Empire had a political system where they centralized bureaucratic government which was ruled by a sultan. Mehmed II was the leader of the Ottoman Empire and he conquered Constantinople which followed the rename to Istanbul. Eventually, they started trading between Europe and Asia where they exported coffee and ceramics.

Why we chose these events?

The Silk Road was an important trade rout because it brought new materials to other parts of the world. Humanism is important because it shows the importance of human values and dignity. The Ottoman Empire conquering Constantinople tells us the history of the Ottoman Empire and it would tell us their political and economic situations. Hernando Cortez and his exploration of the Aztec Empire tells us the downfall of the Aztec Empire, and helps show people how Spain had a decline in their economics. King Louis XIV was the first absolute monarch during the Age of Absolutism, so it was important to include him in the timeline because it tells how how he was rising in power where nobody had control over him.

The Industrial Revolution was very important because it was the growth of the Industry. American Expansion was important for America and the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte because America need territory to be more powerful and Napoleon need money to go to war and that is why he sold the biggest piece of land that was known as the Louisiana Purchase. The first Battle of the Marne was also important because it was the first Battle in which trench Warfare was used. Egypt breaking off from being British Protectorate was important for them because they needed to control their own economy and make more money by building the Aswan High Dam and Nationalizing the Suez Canal. Miracle of Dunkirk was very important for the Allies because they rescued a lot of allies that were trapped on the beach.
