1600 - The Pilgrimage

Pilgrims traveled over the vast ocean to accomplish more than just a simple want. They crossed oceans to accomplish a dream they had about being able to practice their religion without being persecuted. This dream led to many others joining in their voyage in search of being able to express themselves without persecution. Now, not all of them left to avoid being persecuted. Some left because they wanted to escape from cruelty, poverty, and escape trial. In the end, many received the freedom they sought after for so long.

What did this accomplished in today's time:
I see this as the inspiration we have within us. Several are willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish a dream. In this scenario it took the risk of one's life to find freedom. In today's time we are still fighting for freedom. And I believe that this is a dream humanity as a whole will continue to fight for no matter the costs.

The Crucible

In the Crucible the people of Salem believed in working hard to support their own families and their village. They believed that hard work would pay off over time. They also valued honesty and loyalty. In a way this helped shaped their American dream by providing hope that all of the hard work put in will eventually lead to things looking better or more optimistic in the future. It also led to many valuing honesty from those they choose to represent them and loyalty from the ones they know. But in a way, it has also betrayed them. They did not agree or want to work with those who were different or acted different from them, as they were seen as the Devil's offspring that needed to be cleansed.

What did this accomplish in today's time:
I think that this was something that helped progress the American dream as many people of today's time value honesty and loyalty, as well as religion. However, there are several things I don't condone that were practiced by the Puritans during this time, but I do see a few of the things they did that did help the American Dream become clearer. They established a basic foundation of what society should look like and act like.

1700s - Enlightenment

The Enlightenment was a time where equality and equal representation was at it's highest. Many were afraid of the states and many of the laws created by the Constitution. Several believed that the Constitution was equal and that the states would just receive whatever power was left over. This did not satisfy many because they wanted to have their rights protected from being abused by the governments or powerful leaders. Later on down the line the Bill of Rights was established to help support the constitution to where people could have their freedom.

What did this accomplish in today's time:
This has allowed us to have the rights we have in today's time. The ability to live our lives and to freely think the way we want. Even to express ourselves freely without punishment. I believe that it has helped people, but I also see it as something that should be cherished because the same cannot be said for everyone. Not everyone is free and many do not have the same rights we do.
