The first concept I learned in this workshop is that students are at the center of our profession as teacher, therefore, assessments are to serve and benefit our students’ growth academically and individually. The second concept is holistic assessments that explains that teachers should develop instructions in ways that offer students teaching and learning materials, experiences and tasks that are relevant in the real world. Holistic assessments help to ensure that curriculum is designed to demonstrate the real world tasks and provide challenging situations that motivate our students. I learned also in this workshop how to develop and create a rubric as I never developed one before; I always use ready rubrics. 

My first question is since I teach high school so I see more than 170 students a year, so what is the easiest way to consider all accommodations, intervention and rubrics with minimum amount of time? The second question would be how much should we depend on technology when assessing our students?

The first thing I can apply learning from my peers is the way they utilize and analyze students’ data in order to use it in instructional planning and intervention plans. I honestly did not know how to analyze in details my students’ data due to time. Since I started teaching, I have spent more time on professional development than my students. I feel that this is not fair to our students, but one advice I can give is never accept out of field position. I am certified ESE and my major even qualifies me to be History or social science teacher but unfortunately I did not know anything about the out-of-field requirements and neither my school told me so when they decided to give me the reading position instead of the ESE. Hopefully next year I will have more time to spend on my student to be able to better help them.
