One of Hitler's points was that Jews were the cause of their problems. This was how he convinced many germans to believe in what he was saying. with almost no support the jew could do very little to fight back. though some still started marches and resisted the nazis, it had little effect 

Jews were the most targeted but there were also many other groups that it affected. homosexuals and disabled people were also large groups of people that were targeted and killed.

During that time it is believed that over 11 million people were killed. 

That includes many different groups of people such as poles, Serbs, and Romanis. one of the largest ways that people died were through gas chambers. 

This is what made Auschwitz one of the most famous camps because it housed the most gas chambers.
