Students often break the ethical computing rule "Thou shalt not appropriate other people's intellectual output." Teachers stress academic honesty and the significance of giving credit, but students are still tempted to cut corners. Getting people to respect intellectual property can help them understand how important it is to think of new ideas and be creative.

A lot of students plagiarize because they are under a lot of time pressure to do good work quickly. They may copy text or ideas from online sources without giving credit. This makes it harder for them to learn and shows disrespect to the original creators.

Here are some things that can be done to cut down on or get rid of unethical behavior among students, like plagiarism. It is first important to teach students carefully about what plagiarism is and how important it is to be honest in school. This should be done along with clear rules that spell out what is expected and what will happen if someone doesn't follow them. Using software to find plagiarism and giving students assignments that encourage originality and critical thinking can also help them feel like they own their work. For students to improve their writing skills and confidence, support systems like writing centers and peer review can be very helpful.
