Seeking the essence of my own self

I searched in temples, mosques and shrines

But found it nowhere except within

I burned the holy books and scriptures

For they were only words and letters

I broke the idols and images

For they were only forms and shapes

I renounced the rituals and dogmas

For they were only chains and fetters

I silenced the priests and scholars

For they were only noise and chatter

I realized the truth is simple and clear

It is the light of my own awareness

It is the song of my own heart

It is the dance of my own bliss
