E.J.Schnurr, R. (2018). Marine Pollution Bulletin

This book focuses on reducing marine pollution from single-use plastics. This book has showed me that single use plastics such as plastic straws contribute to 60-95% of global marine plastic pollution.

Terry, B. (2015). Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too. https://books.google.com.au/books?id=yS6CDwAAQBAJ&dq=ban+plastic+straws&lr=

This book made me aware of how plastic does harm marine life and to what extent. Plastic straws break down into tiny pieces which resemble food to marine life, some of which will harm while trying to consume.

Linda, G. (2018). Waste Plastic, the Challenge Facing Developing Countries—Ban It, Change It, Collect It?

https://www.mdpi.com/2313-4321/4/1/3/htm

This book takes a different approach on the plastic single-use ban. “Ban it, Change it, Collect it” is the motto of the future of the single use plastics, but this book challenges that. This book suggests that even though the oceans may be fresher, we will lose jobs in factories due to the reduction/loss of single use plastics.

Travis P. W, Patti T (2018). ASSESSING THE USE OF DEFAULT CHOICE MODIFICATION TO REDUCE CONSUMPTION OF PLASTIC STRAWS

https://digital.detritusjournal.com/articles/in-press/assessing-the-use-of-default-choice-modification-to-reduce-consumption-of-plastic-straws/167

This book displays the effects on venues when removed plastic straws from accessible use. Sales were slightly decreased when plastic straws were taken off bars and only given to customers when requested. Although it is only a slight decrease in sales, it shows how serious people are about single use plastics.

Dr. Kandalgaonkar, S.R (2018). Ban on Plastic! A Blessing or A Curse

http://www.ijemr.net/DOC/BanOnPlasticABlessingOrACurse.PDF

This book states a fact which is the hard truth. Single use plastic usage and wastage are both habits from generations. This explains why some people aren’t as on board with the plastic ban, and it may take longer for some people to commit to the plastic alternatives.

SOURCE ONE

"If we trigger the right emotion, people are motivated and chances are high that they will perform the desired action or complete a task."

I want to trigger the right emotions in my audience - sadness for the marine life, guilt of using plastic straws, and inspired to make a change.

In my promotional video, I will use a serif font as I believe the font looks a lot more emotional where as sans serif looks bold and confronting.

Aliotta, C. (2019). Evoke emotion through typography. [online] Joogpot.eu. Available at: http://joogpot.eu/knowledge/16-webdesign/57-evoke-emotion-through-typography [Accessed Feb. 2019].

SOURCE TWO
"When using typography in web design, you could consider using different fonts for more diversity."

I don't believe I will have enough text in my video to have diverse fonts, but if I was to choose to have a title page or header, I will use a font such as Baskerville. It is still serif so it as the effect i want, but it is different and effective so the audience knows it's a different type of text.

"Typography is the only design used here, resulting in a very clear and straightforward site. The lack of distracting design elements leads the visitor’s attention directly to the content."

In the example this website uses, they display a website in which only typography is showing, no other design elements to distract the text. When I use text in my promotional video, I believe a black or dark screen (grey, brown, dark blue, dark red) will be effective as the mood i'm trying to set is anger, guilt and sadness, with just white or grey text will look effective and will contrast well. The message will not get lost as the contrast is strong and there are no other design elements to stray your vision to.

Usabilla Blog. (2019). 15 Practical Tips How To Use Typography For Emotional Design - Usabilla Blog. [online] Available at: https://usabilla.com/blog/15-practical-tips-how-to-use-typography-for-emotional-web-design/ [Accessed Feb. 2019].

SOURCE THREE

"Serious Blues - Blues are calming and serious You can combine your color scheme with gray, tan, or orange, but you’ll want to keep secondary colors toned down so that you’re not overloading your audience with a chaotic look and feel."

As stated above, dark blue or dark red are two options I will consider when creating my text pages for my promotional video because those colours convey the emotions I want to get across to the audience. Blue creates a sense of seriousness which is what I want the audience to feel. The website also matches the blue with grey text, which is an idea I had as well, as grey text will contrast well.

"RED - ENERGETIC AND POWERFUL"

Red is also a colour I am considering using as it is powerful and energetic, as the website states. I want the audience to feel powerful that they can change their plastic habits.

Quick Sprout. (2019). The Complete Guide to Understand Customer Psychology – Chapter 4. This illustration shows a girl picking up plastic straws in the ocean, but leaving and ignoring all of the other types of plastic. This illustration really swayed my thinking of the promotional video I am creating, thinking I am leaving out the rest of the plastic. This has made me develop my thinking of my assignment, to include a section in my video dedicated to the other plastic.

This post has swayed my feelings towards my promotional message.
